Nic Cage

$6 Million Down

$6 Million to Go

4/4/2012 6:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Nic Cage is half-way back to solvency ... TMZ has learned the actor just took a $6 MILLION chunk out of his MASSIVE tax bill to the federal government.

According to official documents obtained by TMZ ... Cage paid off the $6,257,005 he failed to pay in federal income tax for 2007.

It's a huge step ... considering Cage fell around $13 million behind in taxes for 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007. Cage blamed his former business manager for driving him to what he called "financial ruin."

As we previously reported, Cage has been slowly chipping away at the debts from 2002 --2004 ... and if he just knocks out a few more "Ghost Rider" movies, he should be even-steven in no time.

At least he's making it right by paying his debt...

I don't know why this should be so shocking as Nic didn't intentionally try to avoid paying his taxes. His financial manager, whose responsibility it was to deal with all his finances, was the one who didn't do the job he was hired and paid to do.

Lets hope that after he gets that bill paid off he will start being more selective in his movie roles. He's actually a good actor (think of Leaving Las Vegas and Raising Arizona) when he tries. Unfortunately he's become a laughing stock because he takes any role thrown is way and just goes through the motions and way overacts which makes things worse.

And thats the truth

My Dad owned his own business. He had an accountant who had taken care of his finances for years. When he died, my Mom kept the business. I took a look at her taxes and noticed that her bill was more then she made. We found out that they were not counting the work that was sent out because there were no reciepts but there were check stubs. They did not even look at the check stubs. We took everything to another accountant and her taxes had gone from $40,000 down to $2700. This was back in 1985. I can see how this could of happened to Nic.

I like Nic Cage. I think he has charisma. He has The Ghostrider movies, Fast Times, Face Off, Con Air, and a couple other good ones. Does anybody else think the stories on this site are getting really lame. This is my second comment in 2 weeks. I don't care enough to even make a comment because the stories are so boring. Even worse lately.

What I don't understand is why you constantly come down so hard on him. It's already been proven that it was his business manager who caused it. People who make as much money as he does never handle their own taxes and what not. He's always working and he's been cooperative all along, he's never avoided the issue. At the same time, you try to make Lindsay Lohan look like a poor little victim, when you post about her tax problems, when she tries to avoid the issue all together and is never working. She's a known scammer/liar and you try to paint her in a positive picture. It's pathetic and your site is a joke.

His business manager must have held a gun to his head and forced him to buy multimillion $$ homes and castles, dozens of cars, art, a dinosaur skull ..... He spends like the federal government. Too bad he didn't pass some green to a psychologist, he seems to have issues beyond financial.
