Tim Tebow

Raising Hell Over

"MY Jesus" Tees

5/16/2012 1:05 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Tim Tebow
is definitely down with Jesus ... but he ain't down with "MY Jesus" t-shirts -- and he's threatening legal action because he says a website is illegally using his name to sell the merchandise.

TMZ obtained the cease and desist letter Tebow's attorneys sent to cubbytees.com last month -- in which they claim "The Merchandise makes it appear as if Mr. Tebow actually endorses Cubby Tees and its products."

Interestingly, the tee shirts in question do not use Tebow's image or name -- but instead spell out "MY Jesus" using the colors and font of his new team ... the NY Jets. In fact, the website clearly states, "This fun design is not officially endorsed by New York's backup quarterback or the Son of God, but plays off the themes of Tebow's faith and his new team."

Still, Tebow's attorneys are demanding the site stop "any use of Mr. Tebow's name and/or likeness" -- and according to Cubby Tees, Tebow already successfully petitioned eBay to remove the tees.

The shirt makers tell TMZ they aren't backing down, and actually sent a response to team Tebow ... saying the design "shares nothing with Mr. Tebow except for promotion of a common Lord and Savior." The shirts are still for sale.

Props to terezowens.com for the heads-up on the holy war.

The Jets should hit Tebow with a Cease and Desist for using a derivative of their logo to promote his for-profit business. Just because you put Jesus on something doesn't make it exempt from copyright laws.

I am going to guess around 5 weeks after this case is settled, the NY Jets will unveil an insanely similar shirt design for sale at their games.

This Tebow guy is a disgrace to what Jesus stands for. I think he is a nut job first of all, a fanatic and a loon, commercializing religion to the max for his own profit. I think he is a hypocrite and one of those money changer types that Jesus threw out of the temple. Go away crazy man.

The Tebows threatened legal action against me for telling the truth that Tebow was endorsing the company honoring the pagan goddess of victory named Nike! They were unsuccessful at stopping me. Tebow insults Jesus Christ... and from his behavior... it doesn't surprise me that he is trying to stop something positive like this. http://www.christiansagainstnike.com/

I don't know the full extent of this issue above but my only complaint against Tim is that he keeps hanging out with Hollywood and sooner or later they're gonna get the best of him if he's not careful... 2 Corinthians 6:14 - "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"

Timmy can't get a piece of this pie and he's sueing Cubby Tees. It took me 20 minutes to get even on the Cubby Tees website. The description of the tee shirt is very carefully worded so I really dont think that Tebow will win a lawasuit against them. The Jets wanted Tebow and they him and all the drama that follows. It will get even worse one football season begins

Umm... Did anyone acutally read the letter and the associated website??? Nowhere does Tebow claim proprietary rights in the shirt at all. If you look at the website, these people use his name all over the place to sell the shirt. It DOES look like they are using his name as if he endorsed the shirt. All he's asking is for them to stop doing that, which is completely fair. Seriously, will someone please dig to get the facts and not blindly accept what you read in the media... especially on gossip websites? Please, America? Please?

what a hater...i can see him not wanting his name used to sell the products but petitioning ebay and fighting the actual product is just wrong. everyone has to make a living and not everyone gets a football deal, t-bow..
