KC Chiefs Jovan Belcher

Girlfriend's Family

Never Saw Problems

12/1/2012 9:45 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

Jovan Belcher's Girlfriend Kasandra PerkinsKansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and girlfriend Kasandra Perkins were an extremely happy couple ... this according to Kasandra's family, who says news of the alleged murder/suicide this morning came as an "utter shock."

Members of Kasandra's family tell TMZ ... Jovan and Kasandra always seemed to be in love. In fact, we're told when Kasandra got pregnant, she and Jovan were "ecstatic." The family says ever since the baby was born in September, the two couldn't have seemed happier together.

The 22-year-old's family says they have NO IDEA why the relationship took a tragic turn this morning -- when Jovan allegedly shot and killed Kasandra before taking his own life -- and news of their deaths was both devastating and unexpected.

Jovan started playing with the Chiefs in 2009 -- and Kasandra, who is originally from Texas moved to Missouri to be with him.

This is so sad. This guy had it all and just threw it away.

Kaz--that's exactly what I was thinking. All of these scenarios blame the victim for why it could have happened. Time will tell, but nothing is so bad to kill someone and then yourself, leaving a baby without his parents.

This is a tragedy for the shooter, victim, and all their family and friends. Suicide is always complicated but when it occurs after a homicide, it is always more difficult to understand. I'm going to withhold judgement until we know a bit more. This is an example of the fact that even when we're living out our dreams, it's never perfect. Jmo.

Wow, this is really sad. I hope both families can work together and raise the child.

He was a linebacker...it could be entirely possible that he suffered a head trauma/s. If that is the case, it is possible this MAY explain the sudden change in behavior. Head injuries can cause dramatic changes in a person. It is very sad for all involved.

Why are families always shocked that people are capable of doing things like this. Unless you are in a couple's bed, you have no clue how they really are.

Foul, unnecessary roughness. Penalty declined by opposing family due to suicide.

So we're going to go around victim blaming now? Even IF (and that's a big ole IF) either of those was the reason, that by no means justifies him killing the girl and leaving that poor child without parents.

It's so very sad, especially for the innocent child. What was the lethal combo that cause him to snap? I 'd bet a 'roid rage coupled with figuring out or learning that the child wasn't his - light skinned and hazel eyes - Hmmm. Still, no reason to take a life. I think effbomb22 has the idea to curb speculation - call Maury.
