Terrell Owens

Money Men Claim ...

T.O.'s a Stupid $$$ Guy

Terrell Owens
has no one to blame but himself for losing a fortune ... so says his financial guy.

Owens has sued Jeff Rubin, Edward Rappaport and Pro Sports Financial, claiming they grossly mismanaged his stash ... opening a bank account without his knowledge and then forging his signature, and leading him to really bad investments, including a failed Alabama casino.

Rubin is now firing back ... claiming T.O. was fully aware of everything ... and down with it all.  Rubin thinks Terrell is a cry baby who just can't accept the fact that sometimes investments go South.

In a final scold, Rubin snarks ... T.O. was asleep at the wheel by not taking the time to understand what he was getting into and the risks he was taking.

T.O. -- high risk in money AND love.

Well, if it was so risky, what are financial advisers doing suggesting and pushing for it? I'm not a TO fan by any stretch of the imagination - but there have been a ridiculous amount of lawsuits won by athletes because their money guys played fast and loose. I'm not going to be so quick to judge this guy on his own. Heck, for all I know - he is another one of the goob players with no business sense so he put his trust in what he was told... maybe even signed papers without realizing what they were or that he should have had a lawyer look them over. Since the finance guys aren't even mentioning that a lawyer checked on it and made it okay, I'd be inclined to think TO is right, at least mostly.

Professional athletes as a class, file bankruptcy or nearly need to within 2 years of stopping their earning at a rate of nearly 85% according to a recent ESPN 30 on 30.

Not just TO, these "CFP" people realize it's low hanging fruit.

Jeff Rubin has some nerve speaking publicly on this topic. He's calling Terrell a dummy, but at least Terrell is not a financial adviser by trade. This is Rubin's profession and he couldn't turn this man on to one good investment. Ruben and his partners should be ashamed. Anyone would be a fool to hire them now that they are admitting they suck at their job.

It's not his fault. He never paid attention in economics class. Also, this is what happens when you hire your 7th baby momma friends who is a landscaper.

He is a football player. Not many of them have the savvy to invest wisely. I dont feel sorry for the guy, when you have millions you should be careful, and choose nice safe investments. Besides when he was here in buffalo he never impressed anyone with his brain power...so it kind of figures a fool and his money.........

With the technology athletes have today it should be a cinch to monitor their own funds.
