'Glee' Creator Ryan Murphy

Decides Fate of Cory Monteith's Character

7/20/2013 1:29 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

"Glee" creator Ryan Murphy finally broke his silence on Cory Monteith's tragic death ... addressing both the actor's desire to get clean and what will happen to his character on the show.

Murphy spoke to several media outlets Saturday -- one week after Cory OD'd on heroin.

Ryan said, "It’s always sad and shocking when somebody so young dies, but one of the things that made it even more upsetting is that so many of us who knew and loved him were actively involved in trying to get him better."

He added, Cory was working hard as well, recently telling him, "I want to get better."

But it wasn't easy ... Ryan recalled the last time he saw Cory (in June in Fire Island). He said he felt something was off, "I honestly couldn’t tell what was going on with him. He didn’t seem quite himself, but when I confronted him he claimed he was clean."

As for the fate of "Glee" -- whose season was delayed two weeks -- Ryan says Cory's passing will be addressed in episode 3 ... which will be a tribute to the actor and deal with the death of his character, Finn.

TMZ broke the story ... it was previously unknown how Finn would be written out of the show. Producers called a meeting earlier in the week to figure it out.

However they handle it, they MUST show his corpse in the coffin.

I had to pee in a cup to show I was clean in order to get my customer service job at the utility company. Plus, there are always spot checks, to check if I am still clean. I guess that is not the case in Hollywood.

Like It Is

Duh! Hello? He was a junkie. Of course, he was going to insist he was clean. If the hierarchy of GLEE really wanted to help him, they should have insisted that weekly or random drug screening be part of his contract. He would have stayed clean or lost his job. The solution was simple, While Ryan Murphy might be incredibly talented, he is incredibly naïve. You do not take an easy or hands-off approach with a junkie. It never works.

Fire Island as Harvey know is a HUGE drug haven for rich older gay men.

I think it would be nice if his character died doing something heroic like saving a child in danger.

Good riddance drug junkie. Yeah, you really wanted to get better.

All this media coverage over a celebrity who decided to take drugs and consequently become addicted, but no coverage on the soliders who die from PTSD suffered while fighting for the freedom and safety of said drug users. Sickening. The 19 firefighters who passed away got about two days of coverage. Where's the magazine covers for them?? You know, the real Heros?

Well, well with the excuse of a tribute they make money. Lea and Ryan should be ashame of themselves. Will they rehearsal a funeral, too? I guess Lea is finding the positive size of the situation.
