Philip Seymour Hoffman

Planning for Long Heroin Binge

2/3/2014 12:30 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF
Exclusive Details

0203_phillip-seymour-hoffman_getty
Philip Seymour Hoffman
was clearly prepping to use heroin for the long haul before he died, because we now know ... cops found approximately 50 heroin bags in the NYC apartment.

Law enforcement sources initially put the number of bags at 10 ... but now we know the number is 5 times that.  Our sources say a number of the bags were full ... along with a number of unused needles.  The upshot ... Hoffman was ready for a heroin binge.

This makes the story about a possible drug deal at an ATM Saturday night even more interesting ... if Hoffman purchased a large quantity of heroin.

Some of the hateful, negative statements here about the man... Heroin is a tough drug to beat, it's alarming how alluring and sweet the drug is as it whispers to you, and people who "come clean" often only do so with treatment with a weaker, less debilitating drug rather than quit cold turkey. It's not like smoking a cigarette, or alcohol abuse, its something far worse because when you get this into your system you don't even realize it's affects at first, but it makes YOU feel like a better person, like it's the only way you can feel things and feel a part of life. It tricks you into thinking it's the only way you can feel human and alive.

So instead of sensationalizing his addiction, mourn his passing, pray for his family and give them peace from the details that need not be known. His addiction killed him, but it wasn't who he was, or what made him into the talented actor. There was more to this one person than his vices.

I'd like to think this might be a wake-up call for Justin Bieber about the dangers of addiction but i am not that naive.

Maybe he was purposely trying to OD. Sad situation any way you look at it. He had kids and now it's something that the kids will have to live with.

Part of addition are the lies, what you tell yourself, and what you tell everyone else. There is no lesson here, other then TMZ' pretending there is more to this then sadness to build web traffic.

So many assuming, ignorant and judgmental opinions out there. The loudest voices against addiction are always the ones who've never been there. But It's to be expected. Just Remember people, one of the most important things about drug addiction: if you've never been to that place, you'll never understand the people who have.

I got slated yesterday for calling him selfish, for doing this to his poor family. But I stand by every word! Only difference between this junkie, and a junkie on the street is the fact he was rich.
AND he was doing heroin when he knew he had to pick his kids up! Disgusting and so so selfish.

Any idiot knows better than to try heroin. Any idiot knows people who use that are the lowest form of user. When you chose to try it, you chose addiction. It's a CHOICE.

The man is dead; his family is grieving. We do not need to know all the details. What has happened to human compassion and minding our own business?

He gave up his private life when he went into movies. I think its intetesting to hear about what was going on and the latest news about actors that were or are favorites of mine. This is what TMZ is, if someone thinks they are over stepping their boundaries they really don't have to follow these posts.

Please stop saying "heroin binge". There are no such things as heroin "binges". Heroin addicts have to use everyday. You don't use for a few days and then stop.
50 bags for an addict is not a long haul. Its probably like a weeks worth. This is so normal, but we only hear about it when it happens to a celebrity. Opiate overdose has taken 1st place for accidental deaths... over car accidents. It's a problem. And it's a problem everywhere.
