Mischa Barton

Facing Threat of

Foreclosure in the 90210

8/3/2014 12:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Mischa Barton Home"The O.C." star Mischa Barton could lose her massive Beverly Hills mansion in foreclosure ... if she doesn't cough up $100K in back mortgage payments QUICK.

Barton just got slapped with a default notice -- obtained by TMZ -- informing her she's skipped more than 100 grand in payments ... triggering the foreclosure process.

The crib is awesome --  8 bedrooms, 11 baths, 3 guesthouses all on 1.2 acres. She bought it for $6.4M in 2005 -- when "The O.C." was a big deal, and took out a loan for $4.2 million.

The show went off the air in 2007 -- and Mischa's been trying to unload the house since 2010 ... when she listed it for 8.695M, but no one bought it. She re-listed in 2011, and again ... no takers.

Her last ditch effort was attempting to lease it for $35K/month last year ... but that move appears to be way too little too late.

Mischa's been acting in some small stuff lately, playing Ms. Monica in the TV movie, "Gutsy Frog."  She also did an appearance at an Atlantic City club.

We reached out to a rep for Mischa ... so far, no word back.

Unfortunately, a familiar situation for the famous and the not famous.

What's the point in her contacting you? It's obvious she was aware that she could no longer afford this type of home and has been trying to get rid of it for nearly five years and now it's gone in foreclosure. Pretty self explanatory.

More people in entertainment need to realize when they find success, the chances of it being a long lasting success are extremely small. Even if you're on a hit TV show, you have to be smart about spending money. And I'm sorry, but buying a mansion with three guesthouses when you are on a teenage drama, was not smart. How many of those last more then five seasons? Answer...not many. They are the epitome of "flavor of the month" tv shows.

Maybe she should reconsider that OC Reunion where all the cast members have a live tv conversation on how she was a byatch to work with during the show.

A reality show would fail unless she is a complete trainwreck

It is unfortunate that these actors have no sense of what the future might bring. I'm sure when she bought this house she thought she was going to be on the A list forever, raking in millions every year. Next week, she'll join the ever growing list of celebrities filing for bankruptcy.

why is this shocking a washed up TV star living above their means is a recipe for this to happen. it didn't run for enough episodes to be syndicated it only ran for 92 and a show has to run for at least a hundred episodes before it's syndicated the last show that ran for less than 100 episodes that was syndicated was the original star trek that ran for 79 episodes from 1966-1969 or 3 six month seasons rather than the norm back then of 9 month seasons and 39 episodes per though during certain instances a rerun is always shown like when opposite a sporting event or an awards show for example the shows on CBS and NBC were repeats on April 14th 1969 due to the telecast of the 41st Academy Awards the same still holds true. granted Mischa will never be nominated for an Oscar let alone win one 4 of the five nominees in the best actress in a leading role category in 1969 had been nominated previously and three of them had won on a prior nomination correct Katherine Hepburn had won twice previously 1934 for Morning Glory and 1968 for Guess Who's coming To Dinner Joanne Woodward had won previously in 1958 for The Three Faces Of Eve and Patricia Neal had won previously in 1964 for HUD though Neal had sent french actress Annabel la accepted on her behalf because she was in England awaiting the birth of her daughter Ophelia and couldn't travel as she was less than a month from her due date and there's nearly 5400 miles between Berkshire England and Los Angeles. or another example would be Paul Newman after he met his daughter Nell for the first time having to go nearly 4 miles away to be in a matinee performance of the play Sweet Bird Of Youth
