Joel Madden is looking to scrape together an extra $5,950 a month -- because TMZ has learned, he just put his giant Glendale, CA property up for rent ... and according to the listing, that's what it costs to live there.

The 4,800 sq. ft. house has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms -- and Joel originally bought the place back in 2004 for $1.8 million ... right around the time he dated 16-year-old Hilary Duff.
