Melanie Griffith -- Swears to Fake It ... FUR-ever

Melanie Griffith just made Aspen a little less fabulous and a lot more animal friendly -- she's vowing to stop wearing real deal furs ... and opt for high quality fakes instead.

Our sources in the celeb winter mecca tell us Griff was introduced to some primo faux coats while shopping in Aspen ... and fell hard for 'em.

We're told she was so blown away by the quality she immediately dropped $7,000 on 6 fakes ... one in every color available. As for Mel's REAL furs -- we're told she plans to donate them to charity.

There's about to be some ballin' orphans in L.A.
