Gayle King is dishing on how she got cover ready for her photo shoot with Sports Illustrated ... giving cred to the very company her pal Oprah Winfrey just ditched, at least professionally.

We caught up with Gayle in NYC, where the CBS News anchor shared she never dreamed of being an S.I. Swimsuit cover model ... but hinted she really doesn't hate all the attention that comes with it.

She kinda said it all when she admitted, "I am still floating."

McDonald's is admitting that not every kid who has a Happy Meal is beaming with joy ... emphasizing this point with a major redesign to their iconic Happy Meals, for a week anyway.

The company's UK division officially removed the smile from millions of Happy Meal containers in solidarity with Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs from May 13 to May 19. They're also dropping "Happy" from their famous menu item ... calling it "The Meal."

The redesign, brought about by Leo Burnett UK and Ready 10, is meant to reflect a recent study ... which found that 48% of kids in the UK feel pressured to be happy all the time.

The government in Peru has officially changed its laws to legally classify transgender, nonbinary and intersex people as mentally ill ... and, advocacy groups are pissed.

Peru's President Dina Boluarte signed the decree into law last week, categorizing gender identities as outright mental illness ... with the country's health minister claiming it will "guarantee full coverage of medical attention for mental health" for trans people.

Despite the change, the health ministry insists the law change will not force trans individuals into conversion therapy.
