'Sister Wives' -- Backlash in Polygamy Community

10/7/2010 6:48 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Kody Brown, his three wives, fiancée and 13 kids have created a house divided in his fundamentalist Mormon church.

Sister Wives

We're told before Brown decided to do "Sister Wives," he went to his Utah church for its blessing, but the main man -- called the "community leader" -- would not give Kody the thumbs up, because the law squarely outlaws bigamy and the church didn't want the heat. The community leader told Kody to make the decision himself ... and Kody chose to be a TV star.

As for members of the church, we're told they're all down with polygamy but split on one of its families flaunting their lifestyle on TV.  Some church members feel it's too risky -- the old waving-the-red-flag-in front-of-the-bull thing.

But despite the split, Kody and crew are still welcome at their house of worship.

The saying.."waving a red flag in front of a bull" is nonsense.

Bulls are color blind.

If that saying is nonsense why don't you go wave a red flag in front of a bull and see how that works out for you, Honey. ;)

The color may be irrelevent but the saying isn't nonsense. Wave a flag at a bull and he's likely to charge you.

First of all if I was a man I would be a pleasure to be in his place. The women who choose to be this family are smart. The stress in taking care of a household is shared and is a blessing in itself. And not every night you have to have a man next to you and to me that is pleasure. I am proud of them because they are seemingly happy and making money with a smile choosing their pluralistic lifestyle. To each is own.

My understanding of this situation is.....he is only legally married to the first woman. He's not married to the other 3. if these women are ok with living with this guy and his wife in an adulterous situation then so be it. The only time there's a problem is if he tries to be married to more than one woman at a time. Then he's breaking the law.

Donna, If you think that's the case your woefully ignorant about Utah's poligamy laws.

The living arrangement you just described, a legal wife and her husband's mistresses all living under the same roof as a single houshold unit, is a 3rd degree felony under Utah's poligamy law.

All I want to know is if the other "wives" are on government assistance, if that is the case, I have a HUGE problem with their "lifestyle" and would consider them criminals.

Watcher don't believe everything you read. In this particular situation everyone is employed with the exception of the 3rd wife because she stays home and raises the children.

Ever notice how these Mormons always get married to ugly women? What's the point of marrying all these women if you're choosing all the ugly ones?

Crystal, and everyone else listen up:

They are NOT Mormons!! I know you only read and believe what you want, but hear this please. Not only are you making HUGE assumptions about the Latter-Day Saints (LDS; Mormons) you don't have your facts straight and until then, you have no right to criticize, because you are just coming off like an ignorant tool.

Doesn't really matter what these women say, about 'wanting' sister wives..'wanting' to be the 3rd...and what ever supposed 'wants' they claim......this is a sad demonstration of poor self-esteem, poor self-pride, I really feel genuinely sorry for any woman ..or man...who feels they have to share a mate. Everyone deserves to have someone that only wants them, complete attention to one, I wish these women knew that about themselves. Need help with your kids and housekeeping, hire a maid or nanny, getting extra help does not require sharing a spouse (or boyfriend/girlfriend) with another person or people. Not really judging them, being, I really don't care who people get intimate with (as long as it's not children or animals)..consenting adults, do as you will.......I just think it's really sad, these gals seem like great people selling themselves short.

I don't know what you guys are talking about "special polygamy laws" in Utah.

Anyway, Utah is a common law marriage state (Along with a number of other states. This is not unique to Utah.) If you're living with the person for a significant amount of time, and present yourselves as married, refer to each other has husband or wife, along with other things, which can include taking the same last name, or filing a join tax return... you are married under "common law." So yes, it is bigamy.

Why is it that everyone is so quick to judge other people no matter what it is?! For those of you that have made comments regarding "fat" chicks should be ashamed of yourselves! Seems to me all you have going for you are anonymous posts. Grow up! I in agreement that if you don't like it, don't watch it or don't read about it. Worry about your issues and the problems you have.

What the hell is your problem?

A bull will charge someone because of their presence not because the flag is RED. They're color blind jerk.

What do you do? Go through these comments and pick someone to bitch at?
Funny you say nothing to the person that agreed with me.
Why don't you find something to do if you have to vent your anger on unsuspecting people who are just giving their opinions.

Give ME a break!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These women must be so insecure! Why don't they understand there is one man out there some place for them n the more time they waste on this jerk , the more time it will take them to find that man? Why do they think they have to share any man? Does he have them that brain washed? I mean who died and made him God? Why does he get to screw around while they remain faithful to him? They need to wake up n realize there is a man that will remain faithful to just one out there some place. They are wasting their life on this jerk! They need help!!! Their self esteem has gone to the lowest of low. Wake up you don't have to share any man and he is a jerk for asking you to.
