Kobe Bryant

I Didn't Mean

To Offend Anyone

4/13/2011 3:39 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Kobe Bryant has issued a statement about his homophobic outburst during last night's Lakers game -- essentially admitting to using the word "f**got" and explaining, “What I said last night should not be taken literally."

Kobe continues, "My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period. "

He adds, "The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone.”

As we previously reported, Kobe mouthed the words, "f**king f**got" towards an NBA referee last night after he was hit with a technical foul.

OH...but get a non black player to yell N**ger! N**ger! at a ref out of frustration, and you would get Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and half of Los Angeles rioting. It was homophobic, we would not condone this sort of behavior if the shoe were on the other foot but it is okay in this case because...it was only about gays...and not African Americans...great double standard.

Harvey: stop pushing your personal agenda! It is not the law that everyone must love and respect gays- we just can't disadvantage or persecute them because they are gay. As far as I know words like ****** and ***got aren't illegal to use they're use is simply frowned upon and, similarly, we shouldn't disadvantage or persecute the users of these words.

OMG! I can't believe these posts from all these "Holier-than-Thou" people. You can't tell me that they can ALL control themselves at all times. I find that totally impossible to believe! Right or wrong, athelete or not, he's still human, and nobody is perfect.

So, if the referee had been ticked at Kobe and yelled "F*#ing N**R" at him, then Kobe would have just said, "Oh, he was just frustrated and didn't mean any harm".

B.S. The words don't come out of your mouth if you don't mean to offend someone. It doesn't just work with certain people. Fail.

Well when you get away with rape (well except for the money it cost him to buy off his wife and the victim) I guess you figure calling someone a ***ot is no big deal right. He is right he is a privileged rich black man who can do what ever he pleases and get "buy" with it!

He has sold himself as someone who mentors children, and according to him, wants to show young people how to succeed.
I think that if you are at a game, then you show good sportmanship and watch your mouth, if you really want to be a good example.
I remember when if you were a sports "start" and worked for a league, if you assaulted someone, drove drunk, or cussed at a ref, then you were kicked out because of a morality clause. Now the people who do this, get more money, not fired.

He is sorry because he got caught. I work for a suicide hotline and kids complete suicide because of people like this. Whether Kobe means it or not, this gives kids with fragile self esteem even more reason to think of themselves as broken, inferior or worthless. Anyone who condones or supports Kobe for this kind of behavior is part of the greater problem. Yelling "fire" is not a big deal unless you are in a crowded room. Yelling "f***t" is probably not a big deal to you openly gay guys or enlightened straight guys, but to a teen who has to hide his true identity because of his parents or fear of being bullied in school, or, even because he hears that being gay is a sin and God hates him . . . it is just another straw on the camel's back.
