Sean Paul & Inner Circle

Big Up VW!!

White Jamaican Guy is Funny, NOT Racist

Reggae superstar Sean Paul -- a native Jamaican -- is 100% cool with Volkswagen copping his homeland's accent for its new Super Bowl ad because it's funny as hell ... and not the least bit offensive.

Current Grammy nominee Sean tells TMZ he doesn't understand why VW's catching heat for the spot -- featuring a white guy speaking in a Jamaican accent -- because it's "just entertainment."

SP added it's in good taste, and "to me it's no different than the Italian accents in 'The Sopranos' or the English accent in Guy Ritchie's movies."

VDub also got an irie review from Inner Circle -- aka the "Cops" theme guys -- who told us "duplication is the highest form of flattery, and our culture is a happy culture with good vibes."

Proving that point, they said ... "We say to VW: ONE, ONE, ONE LOVE. Anyone who say dat racist better ask themselves...whatchu gonna do when we come for you?"

In other words ... "Chill, Winston!"

He's right, everything is not about offending people, this is why people are always so angry, other who get them started on such crap as this....choose your battles in life...and if these are some of them, you must have a great life.

You know, I'd be the first complaining or calling out a situation if I feel it's warranted. To me this is not. You have to be reaching to consider this racist.

I tell you what... racist or not, if that white man in the video was to walk down the street saying the stuff he said in the commecial, his throat would get slashed with a machette up in the cliffs. A true rasta mon wouldn't play that.

It hasn't occurred to people that there are whites who are native Carribeans and Jamaicans? They speak the same patois, the same accent. Perhaps a visit to such countries will enlighten the ignorant?

If they were doing stereotypical 1930s movie type black accents that would be racist. In this case it is the accent of the people of the country not of a race. Overreactions like this make people less likely to believe it when a real racist incident happens.

I don't think it's racist... just stupid. It makes no sense as it pertains to a German car. If this were a commercial for a travel agency... it would be awesome.

I think the commercial is quite charming! How can portraying Jamaican people as happy, upbeat, spirit lifting and inspiring be interpreted as racist. Seems like a well deserved compliment to me.

How is this commercial racist, lame, gross or stupid. This is a very nice commercial full of positive attitude. It shows the outcome of a positive attitude. This is refreshing. Much better than the usual ads portraying women as sex objects, violence and offensive contents. That is a very nice commercial appropriate for family time slot.

If doing foreign accents by actors is racist, then sue all Hollywood. They have been employing actors to do any kind of accents for many, many years!
