3:10 PM PT -- Officials are currently addressing the media about the death investigation.

Cops wouldn't delve into specifics when asked if they found drugs in Cory's hotel room, but they certainly insinuated it ... saying, "There was evidence in the room that was consistant of a drug overdose."

Cory Monteith
died from a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol ... this according to Canadian authorities.

The British Columbia Coroners Service says an autopsy and toxicological analysis show that the 31-year-old "Glee" star died from a "mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol."

Monteith's body was discovered by staffers at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver, Canada on July 13.

Monteith had struggled with addiction for years and had been to rehab earlier this year.

Monteith had said he began struggling with drugs and alcohol as a young teenager.

Heartbreaking. I really wish he had stayed in rehab longer, because since when is one month enough for ANY addiction? He seemed like a sweet guy, and the events of the past few days seem out of place, for someone who portrayed (and also, somehow, managed to look) the part of a clean-cut youth.

I can't believe the haters who say cruel and useless things about his death. No one's **** smells like roses, and virtually all of us have habits that we struggle to break... and they rarely match up to the grip of drug and alcohol addiction. The guy had been struggling with drugs and alcohol since he was literally a CHILD, 12 or 13 years old. He was practically raised on them, beginning before he could fully grasp how these substances would get ahold of him with physiological and psychological addiction.

What we should be asking, now, is what horrible things, what emotional or physical trauma or neglect, could have started someone on this path so early. Who dropped the ball in protecting a child from such a thing, and how can we prevent it from happening to others, in the future?

This is sad news. Not to take away from the tragedy of this story, but once again TMZ has proved itself capable of getting readers breaking stories before all the others. When it wants to --- and it isn´t wasting time on Mama Junebug burping out political advice or Justin Bieber emitting bodily fluids --- TMZ can do investigative journalism on celebrities like no one else can.

You lie! Not even once did Canadian authorities allude to heroin and alcohol as a factor in Coy's death. In fact, the VPD says "there is nothing to indicate illicit drugs as a factor in his death: So as a TMZ fan. I urge your fact checker to not sensationalize and make up facts, there is enough of a mystery and tragedy here to not need embellishment to boost ratings.

No surprise, but all it means is that he didn't take rehab seriously at all. it was all a joke to him.

Very sad, especially for his grieving family. May he finally be free of his demons and addictions, and rest in peace.

Sadly enough, they're not wrong. Shame that he couldn't beat his addictions.

This is a cautionary tale. One never starts with drugs. Sometimes there is no happy ending.
