Exclusive Details

meshach-taylor-01"Designing Women" star Meshach Taylor died Saturday night ... after a long battle with cancer.

Taylor's family says he passed away at his home in California while surrounded by loved ones.

Meshach is best known for the role of Anthony Bouvier on the popular late 80's show ... and he was nominated for an Emmy in 1989.

Taylor also famously portrayed Hollywood Montrose in the '87 cult classic flick "Mannequin" -- and had a TON of roles on hit T.V. shows ... like "Hannah Montana", "The Drew Carey Show" and "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide."

How sad. Terrific actor and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Condolences to Bianca Ferguson (GH) and the rest of his family.

He was a fine actor and a decent human being. Even those of us who only saw his work saw a unforced warmth and natural humour revealed a sweet soul. He has made lives brighter for having been. May he rest in peace and joy, knowing that he has given more to the world than he has taken from it.

Ahha!

When I get homesick and lonely sometimes I turn on Designing Women, and it cheers me up and makes me feel like I'm in the company of old friends. Rest in peace, Julia Sugarbaker and Anthony Bouvier!

RIP Meshach. I'll never forget how hilarious he was in Mannequin ("Hollywooood,.... come and get me Hollywood!") and his exploits with Suzanne Sugarbaker on Designing Women. That was good t.v.! God bless his family and loved ones.
