"Sinners" writer and director Ryan Coogler turned a night of celebration into heavy reflection ... getting visibly choked up as he called attention to the killing of Renee Nicole Good on a Minneapolis street by an ICE agent last week.

During the National Board of Review Awards gala in NYC Tuesday night, Ryan -- accepting his win for Best Original Screenplay -- didn’t mince words. He explained he was distracted, as his heart wasn’t in New York at all ... it was in Minnesota, where tensions have exploded since Renee was shot and killed last Wednesday.

Jackson Browne Son Died From Fentanyl, Meth

Fentanyl has killed another American ... and this time it's Jackson Browne's son Ethan Browne, an actor, model, and musician.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Ethan died from the toxic effects of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and lidocaine.

The medical examiner says the manner of death was accidental.

John Forté Dead at 50 ... Former Fugees Collaborator

John Forté, famous for his work with The Fugees, is dead ... TMZ has confirmed.

The Grammy-nominated recording artist died Monday at his home in Chilmark, Massachusetts -- a town on Martha's Vineyard -- according to Chilmark Police Chief Sean Slavin.

We're told John died suddenly and the cause of death is unclear ... though cops do NOT suspect foul play.

John is best known for his contributions to The Fugees' second studio album "The Score," which was released in February 1996 and won a Grammy for Best Rap Album. John is featured on two tracks, "Family Business" and "Cowboys," and he co-wrote and produced several songs on the breakthrough album.

Andre Bell Bulldogs Postpone Game After Player Shot & Killed

The Fisk University Bulldogs will not be playing this Thursday ... after sophomore forward, Andre Bell, was shot and killed on a highway in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday.

The HBCU's Assistant Athletic Director, Scott Wallace, confirmed the decision to TMZ Sports on Tuesday ... just two days after the Metro Nashville Police Department said Bell was tragically shot in the head on 1-65 North at the I-40 Interchange.

The Bulldogs' game against Voorhees University has been postponed ... but they will play Saturday against Talladega College.

'The Thing' Actor T.K. Carter Battled Health Problems Before Death

T.K. Carter died at his home after battling serious health issues ... according to his family and authorities.

The actor’s older brother, Harold, tells TMZ ... the 69-year-old had been dealing with multiple medical problems in the months leading up to his death -- including diabetes and ongoing heart issues.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... T.K.’s family requested a welfare check last Friday after not hearing from him for a couple of days, and informed authorities T.K. had high blood pressure. Officers responded to his residence in Duarte, California -- about 20 miles east of L.A. -- where family members met them on scene.

Andre Bell HBCU Basketball Player Dead at 20 Killed in Highway Shooting

The Fisk University basketball team is grieving the loss of player Andre Bell ... who tragically died after being shot on the highway in Nashville on Sunday.

He was only 20.

The Bulldogs released a statement on Monday ... with head coach Jeremiah Crutcher describing Bell as a leader on and off the court.

"He was a dominant force on the Fisk University Men’s Basketball team, but he was most remembered for his infectious smile, loving personality, and unique ability to always bring warmth to a room," Crutcher said.

Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin -- who co-founded the English rock band Black Midi -- has died.

Kwasniewski-Kelvin's family released a statement saying the guitarist's death followed "a long battle with his mental health."

The statement said, “A talented musician and a kind, loving man finally succumbed; despite all efforts ... He will always be loved. Please take a moment to check in with your loved ones so we can stop this happening to our young men.”

Guy Moon -- an Emmy-nominated music composer -- has died following a vehicle accident in California.

Moon -- best known for his work on the animated show "The Fairly OddParents" --died Thursday after he suffered "traumatic injuries" during a traffic collision in Los Angeles, according to the LA County Medical Examiner. Moon's family posted a statement on Facebook, saying they were going through "insurmountable grief."

Colombian Singer Yeison Jiménez Dead at 34

Colombian music star Yeison Jiménez is dead after a plane crash in Colombia.

The plane went down Saturday afternoon in the area between Paipa and Duitama, killing all six people on board, according to Colombian officials. The flight was en route to Medellín and crashed shortly after takeoff.

Jiménez's team confirmed his death in a statement posted to Instagram, calling the loss "indescribable" and honoring him not just as an artist, but as a son, brother, and friend who inspired thousands.

Bob Weir -- the guitarist and founding member of the Grateful Dead -- has died ... according to a statement posted to his official Instagram account.

According to the post ... Weir passed away while surrounded by loved ones due to an underlying lung issue after he beat cancer.

Police have finally arrested a suspect in Dr. Spencer Tepe and Monique Tepe's murders ... with officials taking a man named Michael McKee -- Monique's ex-husband -- into custody.

The Winnebago County Jail in Illinois tells TMZ ... McKee was booked early today and is on an out-of-state hold.

We've obtained McKee's mug shot ... and, he's staring straight into the camera with no expression -- hair a mess and a pair of thick glasses on his face.

T.K. Carter 'The Thing' Actor Dead at 69

T.K. Carter, known for his iconic role as Nauls in the 1982 horror/sci-fi film "The Thing," has died, TMZ has learned.

Carter was found deceased Friday in his Duarte, CA residence after a call for service was made. Law enforcement tells TMZ the call came in at approximately 5:42 PM, and a death report was made. No foul play is suspected.

The cause of death has not been released.
