Emmy Winner Peter MacNicol

Cory Tribute is Great

... For Drug Awareness

9/22/2013 12:50 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

Emmy winner Peter MacNicol is not buying what Jack Klugman's angry son is selling because Peter thinks the tribute to Cory Monteith could actually save lives.

MacNicol -- who won an Emmy for "Ally McBeal" and also starred in classics like "Ghostbusters II" and "Sophie's Choice" -- tells TMZ tonight's tribute to Cory will create enormous drug awareness and possibly reach thousands of teens on a path of destruction.

Peter doesn't think it matters that Cory died without a single Emmy. He says, "If we are going to get into a merit system based on longevity then we are in trouble."

Tell that to Adam Klugman -- who is furious that his 3-time Emmy winning deceased father is barely getting a mention at tonight's ceremony.

But MacNicol says, "The memoriam is not only to honor those who completed a full marathon."

I can't believe people are arguing about this. Why do you need an honor from the Emmy's to be considered great? Just let it be.

Both were actors. Both were human. One had serious potential and the other left a great legacy. Period.

The lesson is... if you waste your life by doing drugs, hollywood will still give you a tribute.

Honoring Cory Monteith is only going to glamorize drug use. That is not a message that I would want the youth to hear.

Good luck with that Peter. I think this idea fell flat although I have to say Rob Reiner's bidding farewell to Carroll O'Conner and Jean Stapleton brought tears to my eyes.

Utter B.S. Then they should have the courage to talk about drug addicts while they are still living.
i.e. “self admitted” drug addict Scott Thorson who they didn't invite to the Emmy's precisely because he is a drug addict.

Peter McNicol is a perfect example of how out of touch Hollywood is with the rest of America.

What would be great for drug awareness is to stop idolizing these people and letting them go with nothing more than a slap on the wrist each and every time they get busted with drugs or drunk driving or stealing or running dog fights or beating up girlfriends/wives/etc. These people don't deserve a hundred chances just because they are considered somekind of "celebrity". These are not the kind of people that anyone should be looking up to and they damn sure aren't the people our children should be looking up to.

While I don't think it was fair that a few individuals were singled out for tributes, Cory was still admired by many worldwide for his PROFESSIONAL life so he deserves as much of a memoriam as any of the others.

In his PERSONAL life it was his choice to take drugs and any addict will tell you that it is a constant struggle every single day and will continue to be so for the rest of their lives no matter how much support and help they have.

If Cory was an accomplished actor who had done more than 3 years on a teen show then yes I can understand but he had one hit show which before his death was fading into irrelevance. Peter macnicol is a tool! Longevity is not the problem people have with the tribute its that he never accomplished anothing significant in his career. Call me harsh but when you think of people who deserve special tributes you think steven speilberg who had many many accomplishments

Why would you want to save a junkies life? These are self inflicted deaths. Let them all overdose. End them causing us suffering with their health coasts and crime. The world is better off without those useless drug addled morons, famous or just regular people....

Honoring a drug addict who died by his own habit...how the hell does that bring awareness....just shows kids ...lets do drug and if...we die we get praised on national television....Jack Klugman deserved that tribute, but then again he was an incredible talent and not some idiotic fool filling himself up with drugs.......Hollywood has become a town of douches......
