Rob & Michele Reiner's Son Nick In Court For First Time Since Murders

Nick Reiner -- who is charged with killing his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner -- appeared in court today for the first time since the couple's unspeakable murders.

Nick was seated behind glass in a Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday for a very brief appearance ... and he did not enter a plea. His arraignment was continued to Jan. 7 ... he remains held without bail.

Nick was wearing a suicide-prevention smock in the courtroom, according to multiple reports, and before the hearing, the judge ruled that media could not shoot video or snap photos of Nick.

During the hearing, Nick spoke only once ... the judge asked him to confirm he was waiving his right to a speedy arraignment and Nick replied, "Yes, your honor."

An LAPD Robbery-Homicide detective showed up at the hotel where Nick Reiner was staying … looking for a weapon, blood, and other evidence connected to the murders of Rob and Michele Reiner … TMZ has learned.

A law enforcement source, along with two other people with direct knowledge, tell TMZ ... a Robbery-Homicide detective showed up at The Pierside Santa Monica hotel Monday around 1 AM, telling the front desk clerk he was there to do a welfare check on Nick Reiner, who was staying in room 207.

We’re told the detective said he was concerned Nick may have disposed of a weapon connected to a violent crime. The detective also said he believed Nick may have "cleaned up" and "disposed of evidence." We’re told hotel staff took the detective up to room 207, where he searched the room.

Rob and Michele Reiner's son Nick has officially been charged with their murders ... and now there's new video showing what may be Nick's last actions as a free man.

Moments before his arrest, Nick was at a gas station buying a drink, video obtained by ABC7 Los Angeles shows.

Watch the video ... the 32-year-old murder suspect wears a baseball cap and a jacket with a red backpack slung over his left shoulder as he shifts his weight from side to side. He surveys the area before making his beverage selection and heading out to the street, where he was immediately apprehended at about 9:15 PM Sunday.

Surveillance footage shows the moment Nick Reiner was swarmed by police and arrested for allegedly murdering his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.

The NY Post obtained video from Nick's Sunday arrest near the USC campus in downtown Los Angeles ... and you see Nick standing on the corner when a bunch of police cars pull up, and officers hop out and throw him in a pair of handcuffs.

LAPD released still images from the arrest Monday, but this is the first video to emerge.

Nick Reiner's attorney Alan Jackson is getting a close look at the crime scene where Nick's parents -- Rob and Michele -- were stabbed to death ... he's just been spotted visiting the home where the couple's bodies were found by their daughter Sunday.

Jackson was fresh from the courthouse, where Nick WASN'T seen today, because he didn't have medical clearance to appear in court.

Watch the video ... you can see Jackson march down the usually quiet road flanked by news crews, causing a commotion with his arrival. Jackson carries a file with him, which he uses to gesture to his team, possibly instructing them on their first moves.

3:30 PM PT -- Nick Reiner has formally been charged. The L.A. County District Attorney's Office announced Reiner is charged with "two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife." Reiner's arraignment has not been scheduled.

1:15 PM PT -- Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman came out swinging in his latest comments on the Rob and Michele Reiner double-murder case ... he says the death penalty is on the table if their son, Nick Reiner, is convicted of murdering his parents.

Hochman says Nicks is going to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and he says the charges come with stiff penalties, if convicted ... a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, or even the death penalty.

The D.A. was quick to say there's been no final decision on going after the death penalty here, but the fact he even mentioned it right off the bat is pretty interesting.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell are set to hold a press conference at 1 PM PT to update the public on the Rob and Michele Reiner double-murder case.

As we reported ... Rob and Michele's 32-year-old son Nick was arrested on suspicion of killing his parents after they were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood, California home Sunday afternoon.

Nick's first court appearance in connection with the murders was scheduled for today, but was taken off the books after he was not medically cleared to appear in court. His attorney told TMZ this morning he has not received any filing yet from prosecutors.

Nick checked into The Pierside Santa Monica around 4 AM Sunday, using his credit card. His check-in came hours after he got into a heated argument with his father at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party.

Eyewitnesses who saw Nick check in say he seemed "tweaked out," but there were no visible signs he had been in a violent confrontation -- we're told definitely no blood stains or cuts on his body.

Police have released photos from Nick Reiner's arrest on suspicion of murdering his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner -- and they show the alleged killer getting handcuffed by members of the LAPD and the U.S. Marshals Service.

In a social media post, the Los Angeles Police Department's Gang and Narcotics Division shared photos of Nick surrounded by cops with his hands cuffed behind him. Officers made the arrest Sunday night at Exposition Boulevard and Vermont Avenue near a train station, which you can clearly see in background.

Barack and Michelle Obama had plans to meet with Rob and Michele Reiner on Sunday night before it was known they had been savagely murdered in their Los Angeles home.

Michelle sat down Monday with Jimmy Kimmel on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" -- and, at one point, the two started talking about the Reiners ... with Michelle taking a veiled shot at President Trump.

Jimmy kicked things off by pointing out that Barack and Michelle were friends with the Reiners -- and he offered his condolences. Michelle discussed how she and Barack had been chummy with the Reiners for many years, and they were supposed to get together Sunday night just hours after the couple was found dead.

Billy Crystal and his wife Janice saw the slain bodies of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele ... because TMZ has learned they arrived at the scene in a flash after a family member called them about the horrific discovery.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... Rob and Michele's daughter Romy called Crystal and his wife not long after she called police to report finding her parents brutally murdered inside their Brentwood home Sunday.
