Celebrity Priest Slams Oscars Over 'Spotlight' They're Hypocrites!

3/2/2016 10:40 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Father Robert Sirico -- a celebrity in his own right for his political and cultural commentary -- eviscerated the Academy for embracing "Spotlight" while it celebrated a child molester in its own ranks.

We got the Catholic Priest -- who writes for the NY Times -- and asked about the church scandal that became the centerpiece of the movie.

You gotta hear his answer ... and he's right. Roman Polanski won Best Director in 2003 for "The Pianist," the same time The Boston Globe was breaking the molestation stories.

Polanski pled guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl and then fled the country ... he's never returned.

Check out the video from 2003, below. The applause for Polanski was thunderous and the standing ovation remarkable.

Will Smith Between a Rock and a Hard Place

3/2/2016 5:32 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Will Smith's in a tough position ... does he attack Chris Rock for throwing shade on Jada at the Oscars, or does he say, all's fair in love and war?

Will chose neither option Tuesday night as he left Nobu restaurant in NYC.

Public Enemy Outraged Oscars Used 'Fight the Power'

3/1/2016 12:40 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The Oscars made a statement by playing Public Enemy's "Fight the Power," and now the group has a statement to the Oscars ... they're pissed off.

Group member Professor Griff tells us he thinks the Academy was just paying lip service to black protesters and will go right back to business as usual.

Griff says Public Enemy is all about change -- radical change -- and the Academy's efforts fly in the face of that. He adds, "The show can't claim the blackness of Public Enemy's message."

That said, Public Enemy does not have rights to license the song ... Universal Music does.

So the man wins again.

Oscars Girl Scout Skit $65k Not Raised ... Scouts Honor

2/29/2016 2:48 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0229-chris-rock-girlscout-cookies-oscars-ABC-01Chris Rock made it look like his battle cry raised a fortune for the Girl Scouts ... sadly, it did not.

A Girl Scout rep tells us they sold around 500 boxes of cookies at $5 a pop. That comes to $2,500 ... far short of the Oscar tote board revealing a grand total of $65,243.

A rep for the Scouts tells us the $65k number was just a joke ... for the skit.

It's possible some of the audience members ordered boxes that would be delivered at a future date.

And it looked like the beneficiaries of the loot were the troop in which his daughters -- Lola and Zahra -- are members. Turns out the money is going to a different troop ... the one based in Inglewood, CA. His daughters are members of a New York-based Girl Scouts troop.

Nonetheless ... still a good night's work for the Girl Scouts.

2/29/2016 12:17 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF
Exclusive Details

0229-kate-winslet-baby-bump-dress-AP-01Kate Winslet is not pregnant, she just has a nice felt dress.

Photos have been circulating showing Cate Blanchett and Brie Larson chatting with Winslet during Sunday night's Oscars ... and Blanchett appeared to be touching Winslet's belly, which is woman code for "OMG YOU'RE PREGNANT! THAT'S AMAZING!"

But a source close to Winslet tells TMZ the "Titanic" star is not with child, she was simply showing off the material on her dress to the ladies.

False alarm.

Michelle Rodriguez Yeah, I Shaved My Pits ... But NOT Just for Oscars

2/29/2016 12:21 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Michelle Rodriguez was all cleaned up for Oscar night -- specifically in the armpit area -- and she's blaming her smooth look on peer pressure.

The notoriously unshaven star attended the Vanity Fair party Sunday night, and flaunted her freshly-shaved pits. At first glance, you'd think she cleaned up because it's a fancy schmancy event -- but she set us straight Monday morning at LAX.

M-Rod says she was feeling the heat long before she slipped into her Oscar night gown, and she doesn't seem happy about it.

We say ... if it makes you happy, Michelle ... let it grow!

Chris Rock Took It Easy On Will & Jada ... Says Pal Donnell Rawlings

2/29/2016 11:53 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Chris Rock actually pulled his punches when it came to Will and Jada Pinkett Smith because his rehearsals were way more brutal ... according to one of his friends.

Donnell Rawlings, who's worked with Rock for years, told us Chris warmed up days before the Oscars by doing a few gigs at The Comedy Store.

Monday morning at LAX, Donnell told us if people were shocked Sunday night, they wouldn't believe what Chris really had to say. He also says the stuff that was cut out ... isn't necessarily dead.

Dr. Luke How Dare You Kesha Gaga Wasn't Singing About You

2/29/2016 8:37 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

022916-dr-luke-keshaDr. Luke is not letting Kesha get away with embracing Lady Gaga for Sunday night's Oscars performance ... he's lashed out at her saying "Til It Happens to You" has nothing to do with her.

Luke is responding to Kesha's tweet, "thank you @ladygaga and VP @JoeBiden for bringing attention to sexual assault at the oscars.  it hit very close to my heart for obvious reasons."

Luke's attorney, Christine Lepera, tells TMZ, "Ms. Sebert [Kesha], who in sworn videotaped testimony from 2011 stated that she had never been sexually abused or drugged by Dr. Luke is neither a victim nor the appropriate person to be held up as an example for this important issue."

0228-kesha-barbados-boyfriend-AKM-GSI-01Kesha -- who's vacationing in Turks and Caicos -- claims Luke threatened her into denying allegations of rape during the depo.

Leo DiCaprio So This Is How You Engrave an Oscar

2/29/2016 7:55 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Leo DiCaprio is a seasoned actor, but he's a neophyte when it comes to Oscar etchings ... so he proved when he took his trophy upstairs to get it engraved.

You gotta watch the video -- there's wonderment in Leo's eyes as the woman burns his Best Actor title onto the prize.

Feels like an odd word to describe it, but this is kinda ... adorable.

2/29/2016 6:45 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0229-vanity-fair-gallery-TMZ-01The Vanity Fair Oscar Party was the place to be after the ceremony.

Dustin Lance Black Fires Back at Sam Smith ... You Know I Won Before You Did!

2/29/2016 8:47 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
Exclusive Details

Sam Smith suggesting he might be the first openly gay man to win an Oscar ... pissed off screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, who's now calling out Smith.

Not long after Smith won Best Original Song for the "Spectre" theme ... Black, who is openly gay, tweeted a reminder that HE won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 2009 for "Milk."

He also claims Smith is infatuated with his fiance, olympic diver Tom Daley.

The "first" argument might seem kinda petty -- especially since Smith didn't state he was first as fact -- but Black tells TMZ, "I think knowing our collective LGBTQ history is important. That's all. We stand on the shoulders of countless brave men and women. We should honor that."

As for the shot about Daley ... Black wouldn't elaborate. We've reached out to Smith, but no word back.

Fun fact: Elton John also won an Oscar, long before Black, in 1994.

update_graphic_red_barSmith has now apologized.

Leo DiCaprio A Little Vaping, a Little Drinking To Celebrate Oscar Win

2/29/2016 6:20 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Leo DiCaprio celebrated his Oscar win by puffing on a vape pen and sipping a cocktail.

Leo was at Ago restaurant in WeHo to celebrate his win, and he was the center of attention.

When he left, someone gave him a bottle of booze. And the weirdest thing ... someone ran out after Leo's car with his Oscar, almost as if someone forgot to take it.

Michael Rapaport Flips Out Over 'Creed' Snub

2/29/2016 6:23 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Michael Rapaport perfectly captured what all of us were feeling when someone other than Sylvester Stallone won the Best Supporting Actor award Sunday night ... "WHAT THE F**K IS GOING ON?!"

You gotta watch the video ... Rapaport goes off when Stallone was upset by someone named Mark Rylance

By the way, Sly's friend Arnold Schwarzenegger also had a message for the actor -- but there's not as much yelling and cussing.
