One of Garret Anderson's oldest friends, actor Tyrin Turner, tells TMZ Sports he was shocked to learn of the MLB great's passing ... because as far as he knew, GA wasn't dealing with any medical issues prior to his death.

The "Menace II Society" star grew up with the World Series champ in Los Angeles ... and said he knew Anderson was destined for greatness on the diamond at a young age.

Their bond was strong over the years ... and it remained that way for decades, with the ball player even serving as Turner's best man at his wedding.

“There were situations that had me so scared,” she said. “I really took myself off the will because I was actually scared for myself, my family, my safety.”

Country music has lost one of its all-time hitmakers -- Don Schlitz, the mastermind behind "The Gambler," has died at 73.

Schlitz died Thursday at a Nashville hospital after a sudden illness ... and the loss is hitting the industry hard. A member of the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame, he was a legend in the songwriting game.

His catalog reads like a greatest hits playlist. Schlitz wrote smashes for Kenny Rogers (“The Gambler,” “The Greatest”), Randy Travis (“On the Other Hand,” “Forever and Ever, Amen”), The Judds, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Tanya Tucker and Mary Chapin Carpenter … just to name a few.

Anderson, born and raised in Los Angeles, was drafted by the Angels in 1990 ... and went on to play for the big league club from 1994 to 2008, becoming one of the greatest players in franchise history.

Garret had a ton of personal as well as team success in Anaheim ... making three All-Star teams and winning a World Series in 2002. He also won the Silver Slugger Award twice, in 2002 and 2003.

He told attendees he felt "lost, betrayed, or completely powerless" during his life and "stuck my head in the sand for years" doing as he was told until one day he realized he didn't have to.

Harry explained ... "After my mum died just before my 13th birthday I was like, 'I don't want this job. I don't want this role wherever this is headed, I don't like it.'" He added ... "It killed my mum, and I was very much against it."

The process requires a formal application, a sponsorship fee and approval from the Walk of Fame selection committee ... and Jane says she plans to submit everything before the May 15 deadline.

She says her late son "would've loved" the idea, noting the two used to stroll along the Walk of Fame whenever they visited Los Angeles.

A family member tells TMZ ... Joy passed away at her Los Angeles-area home Tuesday surrounded by family, after getting sick with pneumonia several weeks earlier. We're told she fought until the end and fully expected to recover and get back to work at her beloved Burbank bakery, Aunt Joy's Cakes.

Joy was working at Aunt Joy's until the very end ... we're told she was working the day before she went to the hospital to receive medical care.

"Euphoria" launched into its new season by remembering its past ... the show paid tribute to late stars Eric Dane and Angus Cloud during Sunday's Season 3 premiere.

At the very top of the episode, the show displayed a title card with Dane's photo along with the text, "In remembrance of Eric Dane."

Similarly, the show honored Angus -- who played Fezco -- and executive producer Kevin Turen at the end of the episode. Both died unexpectedly in 2023 after Season 2 dropped in 2022.

As you know ... Eric died in February after a battle with ALS -- a disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, which has no cure.

John Nolan -- best known for his roles in "Batman" and "Person of Interest" has reportedly died.

The actor died Saturday, according to local British outlet Stratford-Upon-Avon Herald. No cause of death has been revealed.

John is the uncle to Jonathan and Christopher Nolan ... and helped lay the groundwork for their family's success in showbiz. He is recognized for portraying Wayne Enterprises board member Douglas Fredericks in 2005's "Batman Begins" and 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises," which starred Christian Bale.
