"Last Comic Standing" finalist Rebecca Corry is not joking about animal rights in Los Angeles ... her nonprofit just sued the city, the cops, and Mayor Karen Bass, among others ... over the unethical treatment of animals in city shelters and on downtown's Skid Row.
All jokes aside ... Corry isn't just a comedian, she's also an animal activist and founder of the Stand Up For Pits Foundation, which dedicates itself to saving the lives of pit bull-type dogs.
In the new lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, the foundation is suing Bass, the LAPD, Los Angeles Animal Services, L.A. Animal Services Manager Annette Ramirez, and the City of Los Angeles -- claiming they're all to blame for not following the law in caring for stray animals, and causing widespread animal suffering.

The man the prosecutors say shot two National Guard members last week in Washington D.C., killing one of them, is pleading not guilty to the charges against him ... doing so from his hospital bed.
Federal prosecutors charged Rahmanullah Lakanwal earlier today with first-degree murder, assault with intent to kill while armed, and two counts of possessing a firearm during a crime of violence.
Lakanwal appeared in court virtually from his hospital bed and pleaded not guilty.

She said her daughter stopped answering her phone after the game, though she could see it pinging in Austin. Brianna was found about 1 AM Saturday ... Rodriguez was informed by police at 4 PM her daughter's body was in the morgue.

An Amtrak incident in Rhode Island caused unexpected delays Sunday when a train caught fire right in the middle of the post-Thanksgiving travel rush.
A Providence city spokesperson tells TMZ ... the situation involved three unoccupied passenger rail cars at the Providence Amtrak Station. The cars were moved and firefighters extinguished the fire safely.
Amtrak Police say the fire appears to be mechanical in nature and not suspicious. Providence Police assisted with crowd control after the station was evacuated due to smoke coming from the tunnel. Officials confirm no injuries were reported.
