Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay -- the powerhouse vocalist who sang with California psychedelic rock band Grateful Dead -- has died at 78.

The singer died Sunday at Nashville’s Alive Hospital following a long battle with cancer. Her family said in a statement ... "She was a sweet and warmly beautiful spirit, and all those who knew her are united in loss."

A "tight-knit" community in Wales was left heartbroken by tragedy Sunday when a 9-month-old baby was reportedly attacked and killed by a dog.

BBC News reports the child was killed in the village of Rogiet in southeast Wales Sunday around 6 PM local time. The dog was seized and removed from the property ... Gwent Police did not immediately release the breed of the dog. No arrests have been made.

According to the outlet, the "quiet community" is standing together through the profound sense of loss over the shocking tragedy. A local cafe called Rogiet Community Junction has become a much-needed source of comfort for those who need it.

A former TV anchor was reportedly arrested in connection with the stabbing death of her elderly mother Friday.

Angelynn Mock -- a 47-year-old woman who anchored St. Louis' local station Fox 2 about 10 years ago -- was taken into police custody in Wichita, Kansas after her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, was found in bed with multiple stab wounds, the Daily Mail reports. Avers was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Wichita Police Department told the Daily Mail they responded around 8 in the morning and found Mock outside the home while her mother was lying inside bleeding.

In what authorities reportedly called a 2-part attack, wild elephants broke a man's legs in Malaysia ... then later came back and trampled him to death.

According to local news outlet, The Vibes, Saidi Jahari, 43, was working at a logging site in the Gua Musang district of the country at the time of the incident. The news outlet reports elephants attacked the logging site, injuring Saidi while the five other loggers were able to escape into the woods.

Following the attack, Saidi's coworkers brought him inside their communal house for protection as he nursed his two broken legs.

In a statement, his wife, Kelly J. Roberts says he passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday night, just days shy of his 89th birthday. He was surrounded by family and their three dogs when he died.

TMZ can confirm via family sources Jabari was shot to death late Friday night. The Los Angeles Police Department tells TMZ ... officers were called to the intersection of 69th Street and Figueroa Street just after 11 PM, where the victim -- a 34-year-old black male -- succumbed to his injuries.

We're told the victim approached a vehicle and was shot. The suspect -- who was stationed outside a smoke shop in South L.A. -- fled the scene and has not been identified.

Former MLB pitcher Yoervis Medina has died following a reported medical episode.

Medina, who pitched for the Mariners and Cubs, suffered a heart attack and consequently crashed his car at a shopping center in his home country of Venezuela, according to local outlet Radio America.

The accident reportedly occurred Thursday night at the Via Veneto Shopping Center in the municipality of Naguanagua. He crashed into several parked cars, but no additional injuries have been reported.

The Mariners paid tribute to Medina upon learning of his sudden death, saying they were "saddened" and extending their "deepest sympathies" to his family and friends.

Angelina was the matriarch of the Germanotta family and had a special bond with her superstar granddaughter. In fact, Gaga's full name -- Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta -- carries part of her late grandmother's name, a touching tribute Gaga has often said connects her to her family's legacy and Italian roots.
