8:55 AM PT -- Hours after Dean Cain appealed for people to join ICE, Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted her appearance on Fox News today on X, announcing ICE's hiring age cap has been lifted.

Noem said ... "Our recruitment efforts to hire 10,000 new ICE officers has been extremely successful ... as of today we have over 80,000 applicants for those 10,000 positions already ... we've removed any of the age barriers, we no longer have a cap on how old you can be."

American Eagle's feeling good about its new Sydney Sweeney commercial -- despite all the controversy ... they might have good reason to blow off critics claiming the ad focuses on Nazi-like eugenics, pushing blonde hair and blue eyes as aspirational.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... the ad campaign is creating tremendous buzz and their independent polling shows the vast majority of folks -- around 70% -- find the commercial appealing.

The spot centers around Sydney buttoning up some AE jeans and touting her biological makeup, where she breathily says, "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color ... my jeans are blue."
