Meghan Markle is speaking out after her father, Thomas Markle Sr., has been placed under investigation for allegedly possessing "hundreds, if not thousands" of child porn images in the Philippines.

In a statement ... the Duchess of Sussex said ... "I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed."

She added ... "In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father, and I was given assurances that these were being investigated."

Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle Sr., is under criminal investigation by a child protection unit after his son, Thomas Jr., allegedly found a massive stash of child porn at his dad's home in the Philippines, TMZ has learned.

A spokesperson for the Cebu City Police Office in the Philippines tells TMZ ... "There is a specific unit assigned to that case: Women and Children Protection Center. The rep added that there's a "criminal investigation" underway and "this case is confidential."

The Sun published an article this week stating that Thomas Jr. found “hundreds, if not thousands” of child sex abuse images in four large boxes at his father’s residence in the city of Cebu.

Prince Harry says he'd like to work things out with his family ... though he claims "some people don't want" the royals to fix their fractured family.

The Duke of Sussex opened up about his family troubles in an interview with GQ after he was asked whether he's grieving his complicated relationship with King Charles and Prince William.

Harry says ... "Some people don't want it to work out. I want it to work out. With everything else that's going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile -- that's the key point."
