In an emotional Instagram post Sunday morning ... the "Today" host shared a photo of a painting her daughter Vale made along with its message ... "I know it might not seem like it but I really need my mommy."

Savannah wrote ... "It says so much about how I feel. The world goes on, things appear 'normal' - as we try to keep going and be strong, especially for our young kids - but it’s not and it never will be."

A tragic shooting in Alabama on Halloween left one person dead and 9 others injured after a football game -- one person has been detained as cops continue to investigate.

Police say the violence erupted Saturday night outside Legion Field in Birmingham following the Magic City Classic -- one of the biggest events in HBCU sports ... pitting historic rivals Alabama State and Alabama A&M against each other.

Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett held a press conference in which he confirmed the fatality ... with the current injury count at 9.

Dr. Mark Fowler -- who oversaw Christa Pike's botched execution and a previous failed attempt to put another inmate to death -- is speaking out about both controversial procedures.

In a candid interview with Intelligencer ... Fowler said of his work ... "I'm not an evil, vicious person. I'm not unscrupulous. I'm not uncaring, and I'm not incompetent."

Upon realizing that Christa was still alive during her execution attempt, Fowler admitted he was worried she was "going to be in a permanent vegetative state with a quarter-million dollars in medical expenses."

The boyfriend of Christina Lynn Downer -- "Saturday Night Live" writer Jimmy Fowlie's sister -- is among 2 people arrested for her murder ... TMZ has learned.

Delorean Bijon Brandon and his alleged accomplice Kaylee Nicole Markowski were arrested on Oct. 29 with both their bails set at $2 million ... jail records show.

Without going into details ... the LAPD confirmed in a statement that the two were allegedly responsible for her murder and had disposed of her body.

The LAPD said Brandon informed them Downer had left behind all of her belongings -- including her dog and her car -- after moving out of their Koreatown apartment.

An ICE agent who ran over an immigrant in Houston can be heard calling the man he ran over "bro" in newly released bodycam footage ... as the victim moaned from his serious injuries.

In the clip of the Oct. 10 incident, ICE officer Mario Alberto Morales could be seen hitting and running over Miguel Parra Hernández with his vehicle.

As Parra Hernández writhed in pain, he cried out in Spanish ... "You ran over me!"

Morales' deadpan response to his painful pleas was simply ... "Yeah, you got hit with a car, bro."

A storage unit rented by Thomas Markle Sr. was raided by authorities ... just hours after a published report that it allegedly contained child pornography.

Buckeye Police Department's PIO Carissa Planalp said ... "Detectives have arrested the fiancé of a Buckeye mom who was assaulted by a home intruder earlier this month. This assault was part of a plot between the victim's fiancé and a Goodyear man he met online."

In a first-person letter, she writes ... "Several days later I woke up alone in a hospital confused and in pain. There hasn't been a moment since that night when I haven't been in pain. My body hurts. My arms hurt. My hands hurt. My throat hurts. I still struggle to speak."

According to WSB-TV Atlanta, a Gwinnett County judge ruled Thursday that Deja Coleman will be able to take her little ones door to door at Rainbow Village -- which serves families experiencing homelessness -- where she's living under house arrest.
