Jessica Simpson vs. Nick Lachey

TMZ has learned that the divorce is becoming bitter over money.

THE MARRIAGE: October 26, 2002

THE SPLIT: Jessica filed December 16, 2005

WHERE ARE THEY NOW: Sources tell TMZ that lawyers for Nick and Jessica have been trying to hammer out a settlement, but it is falling apart. We're told Jessica has offered significantly less than half of what Nick would be entitled to under California law.

Ironically, it was Nick who wanted a pre-nup, which would have separated their property. Jessica said no, we're told, at the behest of her Dad/Manager Joe Simpson. TMZ also dug up an article in 2004 in which she said "If anything were to happen to me and Nick, I've had a great life with him and he would deserve half of everything I have." Well, actions speak louder than words and our sources says she's offered a lot less. They are miles apart on the financial settlement and the buzz is it's not any greediness on Nick's part. Sources say he will definitely not ask for spousal support, even though he probably could get it.

Hilary Swank is officially filing for divorce from Chad Lowe, her husband of eight years, PEOPLE magazine reports.

TMZ has obtained papers filed today by Principal in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The two have no children together.

Principal, who now has something in common with new pal Jessica Simpson, is best known for her role as Pamela Barnes Ewing on the 80's primetime hit 'Dallas.' She can currently can be seen selling 'The Principal Secret' skin care products on QVC. The two have amassed a fortune between them-- Glassman's plastic surgery practice, which counts many celebrities as clients, and Principal's wildly successful skincare line. According to the documents, the couple does have a pre-nup. Principal is asking, however, that a judge block any request from Glassman for spousal support.

TMZ recently spotted CaCee Cobb (Jessica's ex-assistant) and Nick Lachey (Jessica's ex-husband) at Shag in L.A. getting pretty friendly.

In addition to their late-night bonding, hype about their rumored relationship was further fueled by Cobb's resignation as Simpson's personal assistant. Cobb recently celebrated her last day on the job with Jessica and friends at Arnie Morton's Steakhouse in L.A. Sources indicate that Cobb admitted she always found it difficult taking sides during the pair's split.

Cobb and Lachey first caused a stir when they got touchy feely in a swimming pool on an episode of 'Newlyweds.'

Charlie Sheen has agreed to stay clear of Denise Richards and to supervised visitation with their children, at least for now, and TMZ has obtained the new court documents.

Lawyers for the estranged couple appeared Friday morning in Los Angeles County Superior Court and announced that they have agreed to extend the restraining order that Richards obtained against Sheen while a psychologist conducts an evaluation to determine what custody arrangement would be in the best interests of their two daughters.

WHERE IT STARTED: Recently, at Hollywood hotspot The Dime, Lindsay sent a round of drinks over to Jessica Simpson's table (where Jess was sitting with Lindsay's then-rumored boyfriend, director Brett Ratner). Lohan supposedly didn't receive a thank you from Jess, reportedly leaving Lohan furious and jealous.

A few days later, 'Life and Style' reported Lindsay told a friend she was going to get back at Jessica by going after her estranged husband, Nick Lachey.

HOW IT SPREAD: Rumors of a Lohan/Simpson feud have actually been brewing ever since Ashlee Simpson allegedly got involved with Lohan's ex-boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama. That led to reports that Lohan didn't let Jessica and Ashlee into her MTV Movie Awards party at the Standard Hotel in Hollywood last June.

Ashlee then reportedly fired back at Lindsay with her hit single, 'Boyfriend.' Now rumors are flying that the recent spat at The Dime was the Simpson sisters' last straw.

THE TMZ LOWDOWN: Lindsay's rep denied the story to 'Life and Style.' Sources close to Nick have told TMZ that there's nothing to the rumors -- that Lindsay has made no contact with Jessica's ex.

Rob Shuter, Jessica's publicist, also tells us that rumors of a feud between the girls "are a whole lot of nothing." But unfortunately for Lindsay, when Nick was asked about the rumor in a recent radio interview, he stated "I can safely say that I don't have any interest in Lindsay Lohan...nor do I understand anyone else who does." Ouch, will this lead to a Lachey/Lohan feud?

The bottom line -- there seems to be some bad blood between the two young divas, but it has not escalated to "I'll steal your guy" warfare.
