Selena Gomez got what she was after in court today -- kinda sorta. The judge extended the civil restraining order, but refused to make it permanent until her alleged stalker has his day in his court.

Gomez' lawyer, Blair Berk, went to court this AM, trying to win a 3-year extension of the temporary restraining order that was issued last month. Thomas Brodnicki has made repeated threats, vowing to murder Selena ... this, according to LAPD detectives, who say the threats are extremely concerning.

Nonetheless, the judge felt Brodnicki has a right to due process -- in other words, to be in court and address the allegations. Problem is -- Brodnicki is in custody on felony stalking charges.

So the judge extended the temporary restraining order, until Brodnicki gets out of the pokey.

Selena Gomez' alleged stalker is not just a crazy fan ... his repeated threats to kill her pose a "serious threat" to Selena ... this according to an LAPD detective working the case.

Detective Jose Viramontes wrote a sworn declaration that was filed in court this morning, in which he says he interviewed Thomas Brodnicki on October 13th -- after he told a shrink he was going to kill Selena -- and Brodnicki "reiterated that he had many conversations with God about killing Ms. Gomez."

Det. Viramontes says Brodnicki made it clear ... he wasn't going home to Illinois until he met Selena.

The detective concludes Brodnicki has made "credible threats" and that he poses a "serious threat to Ms. Gomez."

Viramontes wrote the declaration in support of Gomez' petition to make her temporary restraining order permanent. A civil judge is hearing the matter right now.

Selena already has a civil temporary restraining order against Brodnicki. Today the judge issued a separate criminal restraining order prohibiting Brodnicki from going near Selena for the next 3 years.

The video kicks in right after Lopez -- who split from hubby #3 Marc Anthony in July -- finished up the performance.

Lopez had introduced the song by saying, "I'm going to sing you the last song I wrote about love ... a lot has changed since then."

Brodnicki told the shrink he traveled from Chicago to L.A. to meet her, visited her workplace at least 3 times and has told people he had conversations with God about killing her. Selena says she is in "extreme fear," believing he will carry out his death threat against her if he isn't stopped.

Selena and her lawyer claim Brodnicki was picked up for mental evaluation last month after he allegedly threatened to "scratch people's eyes out on the street." Brodnicki allegedly made the threats against Gomez during his mental evaluation.

According to court docs, LAPD detectives are taking the threats "extremely seriously" because of Brodnicki's history of mental illness and making criminal threats.

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lopez are not a couple just yet ... but a source close to the pair tells TMZ they are indeed "casually dating."

As TMZ first reported, the two went on a dinner date in New York City last month. They had not been spotted out again until yesterday -- when a photo surfaced of Bradley Cooper driving an SUV and a woman who certainly looked like JLo ... covering her face in the passenger seat.

According to docs filed in Broward County in August, Manny requested to change his name on his marriage certificate -- from Manuel Fernando Ramirez to Manuel A. Ramirez. According to Wikipedia, the A stands for Arístides.

The initial filing was done just a few weeks before Manny was arrested for domestic violence. A hearing on the change has now been scheduled for next week.
