The M in MLB might as well have stood for Mother on Sunday -- 'cause a bunch of players, including Phillies star Jose Alvarado, put their love for their moms on full display during their afternoons on the big league diamonds.

Take a look at Alvarado's cap as he came out of the bullpen during Philadelphia's 3-0 win over the Guardians at Progressive Field ... he had an adorable note written to his mom in silver ink.

"Happy Mother's Day," the message read. "I love Mom."

Pope Leo XIV Before White Smoke ... I Was All White Sox!!!

Before it was Pope Leo, it was "Let's go White Sox" for Robert Prevost ... as an unearthed photo shows the new pope cheered on the Pale Hose in person at a 2005 World Series game.

In the picture -- which was obtained by The Chicago Sun-Times shortly after Prevost was elected Pope Leo XIV on Thursday -- you can see the new pontiff chatting on a phone at U.S. Cellular Field as some of his close friends posed for a picture inches away.

According to Sports Illustrated, the image was from either Game 1 or Game 2 of the Series against the Houston Astros. The Sox won both -- the first by a score of 5-3, and the next 7-6. They went on to win the whole shebang, four games to none.

The Pittsburgh Pirates fan who sustained significant injuries in a fall at PNC Park last week was actually celebrating a play on the field just before his tragic tumble, new video from the stadium shows.

Check out the footage, which CBS obtained this week ... you can see Kavan Markwood jumping for joy over a hit the Pirates just got ... before he toppled over some short railing in front of him.

It appears to prove the police theory that the terrifying scene in the seventh inning of Pittsburgh's matchup with the Cubs was nothing more than a bad accident.

Reds' Tyler Callihan Goes Under Knife On Gnarly Arm Fracture ... Out Two Months

The Cincinnati Reds will be without rookie Tyler Callihan for a few months -- the left fielder underwent surgery to repair the gruesome arm fracture he suffered while trying to make a play earlier this week.

Callihan -- who signed a $1.5 million deal with Cincy -- had the procedure done on his forearm on Tuesday, just one day after he attempted to catch Matt Olson's fly ball during a tilt against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.

The moment was captured on the broadcast ... showing Callihan, 24, crashing into the wall and falling to the ground, holding his fractured arm.

Pittsburgh Pirates Suspend Employee Over Wild Fistfight

A Pittsburgh Pirates game day employee has been suspended by the team ... after he was seen on video getting involved in an absolutely insane fistfight with a fan at PNC Park.

The violent scrum happened on Sunday -- as the Buccos were taking on the Padres.

According to CBS, the altercation went down after a Pirates employee -- who was wearing a white polo and tan pants -- tried to pull two men away from a tiff they had been having with a nearby concession worker.

Reds' Tyler Callihan Gruesome Injury In Left Field

Tough break for Reds rookie Tyler Callihan ... he snapped his arm while trying to make a diving catch Monday night -- and video of the play is tough to watch.

The gruesome scene unfolded in the third inning of Cincinnati's matchup with the Braves at Truist Park in Atlanta ... when Matt Olson blasted a deep fly ball to left field.

Callihan sprinted from his position to try to track it down ... and while he was initially able to secure it -- it popped free after he fractured his arm running into a nearby wall.

Pittsburgh Pirates fan Kavan Markwood is making strides in his recovery ... as he took his first steps since last week's terrifying incident at PNC Park, his loved ones announced on Monday.

The update was posted on the GoFundMe page created to raise money for his medical bills and the "financial hardships that this family is experiencing right now."

Jennifer Phillips -- the fundraiser's organizer -- shared the news of Kavan regaining the ability to walk ... saying, "Seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone's spirits."

A couple young MLB fans got a REALLY close view of the action on Sunday -- as a family saw Nolan Arenado land right on top of them after making an insane catch in foul territory!!

The moment went down in the second game of the Cardinals' doubleheader against the New York Mets. During Juan Soto's at-bat in the eighth inning, he popped a ball up along the third base side of the diamond -- and Arenado made a dead sprint to attempt the highlight play.

He was able to make the catch  ... but his momentum carried him right into the netting meant to protect fans -- and he ended up sitting on unsuspecting spectators in the front row.

Shedeur Sanders is already making a serious impact in Cleveland ... 'cause Guardians star Jose Ramirez broke out the Browns' new signal callers' signature celebration after a massive walk-off win on Thursday!

In case you missed it, Ramirez sealed the 4-3 win in the 10th inning against the Toronto Blue Jays after a stolen base put the perennial All-Star in scoring position. Then came the walk-off.

FYI, Ramirez became the first Cleveland baseball player to notch 250 steals and 250 homers.

MLB Fan Injured In Wall Fall Identified ... Ex-College Football Player

The fan who tragically fell from an outfield wall at PNC Park on Wednesday has been identified as Kavan Markwood -- a 20-year-old former college football player.

A spokesperson for the South Allegheny School District -- where Markwood played his high school football -- confirmed to TribLive on Thursday it's Markwood who's currently fighting for his life at a Pittsburgh-area hospital after he tumbled to the warning track during the Pirates vs. Cubs game.

"Everyone at South Allegheny would say he is a hard-working, highly resilient young man," the district rep, Laura Thomson, said. "He’s a fighter. He's going to need that resiliency now."

10:40 AM PT -- The Pirates acknowledged the incident prior to their game against the Cubs on Thursday morning ... taking a moment to offer prayers for the fan and recognize the medical personnel who helped rush him to the hospital.

6:21 AM PT -- Authorities in Pittsburgh say the fan is currently at a local Pittsburgh hospital in "critical condition."

No further updates regarding his health were given ... though they added they believe the incident was an accidental one.

An MLB fan sustained significant injuries in a fall from a PNC Park outfield wall on Wednesday night ... and the scene was so horrifying, Pirates manager Derek Shelton asked afterward for "everybody to keep him in their prayers."

Cleveland Guardians Apologize To Jarren Duran ... Over Fan Incident

The Cleveland Guardians are apologizing to Boston Red Sox star Jarren Duran following a heated confrontation with a fan at the ballpark on Sunday ... after the spectator reportedly heckled him over his past suicide attempt.

The scene unfolded during the seventh inning of the matchup ... when Duran needed to be held back by umpires and other members of the Red Sox. According to Will Middlebrooks, the fan allegedly told Duran he "should have killed himself when he had the chance."

Shortly after the final out, Cleveland released a statement ... saying it identified the fan in question and was working with the league on potential next steps.

Tommy Pham grew so frustrated with a fan during the Pirates' tilt vs. the Angels Wednesday, he busted out an obscene gesture toward the person ... and it's all probably going to result in a stiff fine.

The Pittsburgh left fielder's spat with a Halos supporter began during the fifth inning of the Buccos' matchup with L.A. at Angel Stadium ... when a man clad in red leaned over some railing and touched Pham while he was digging for a ball in the dirt.

The Pittsburgh star clearly didn't appreciate the physical interaction ... and after throwing the baseball to the infield, he and the guy seemed to quarrel for a few more minutes.

The Dodgers' superstar and his wife Mamiko Tanaka -- a former professional basketball player from his native Japan -- welcomed a daughter on Saturday, the team announced.

Jazz Chisholm Suspended ... For Posting On Social Media Mid-Game

Jazz Chisholm Jr. has landed in some hot water following the Yankees' Thursday night matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays ... not for his actions on the field -- but for a social media post he published in the middle of their game.

MLB made the announcement Friday afternoon ... saying Chisholm Jr. received the one-game suspension and "an undisclosed fine" for violating the league's social media policy.

He will not serve the suspension Friday ... as he's appealing the league's ruling. The second baseman can continue to play until the process is complete.
