Smith died Saturday morning ... but details surrounding his death were not immediately available.
The San Francisco 49ers confirmed the news in a statement ... saying they were "devastated by the sudden and tragic passing" of the former first-round pick. The team remembered Smith's remarkable talent, standout rookie season and the infectious smile that "lit up every room he walked into."

Former NFL star Andre Rison is spending the weekend in jail ... after being booked in Michigan to serve time tied to a second-offense impaired driving case, TMZ has learned.
The Oakland County Jail tells TMZ the ex-wide receiver was booked into custody on Friday night and is scheduled for release Sunday.
Court records obtained by TMZ show Rison pleaded guilty to a second-offense operating while intoxicated charge stemming from an August 2025 incident in Troy, Michigan.

Stefon Diggs just scored another significant victory after his former chef case -- the NFL star will not face punishment from the league after an investigation determined he did not violate its personal conduct policy.
Diggs -- who was found not guilty of strangulation and assault and battery last month -- was under the NFL's microscope ever since the allegations surfaced back in December.
Despite the serious claims made by his female staffer, Diggs continued to play for the remainder of the New England Patriots' postseason run, which ended in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

Henry Ruggs Denied Parole
Henry Ruggs isn't getting out of prison anytime in the near future -- the former Las Vegas Raiders star receiver was denied parole at a ruling on Thursday.
Ruggs is serving up to 10 years behind bars as a result of his November 2, 2021 accident ... when he sped at 156 MPH and crashed into 23-year-old Tina Tintor, killing the woman and her dog. Officials said his blood-alcohol concentration read at .16 within two hours after the tragedy.
Ruggs ultimately pleaded guilty to felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and was handed the lengthy sentence in 2023.
Ruggs went before a parole board himself back in May ... and his attorney, David Chesnoff, praised how he had been using his time in prison by leading his fellow inmates in cardio classes and sharing his story.
