What's Better Than One 9/11 Hero Dog?
Four 9/11 hero dogs!!!
Trakr, a K9 police and search and rescue dog who was credited with locating the last human survivor of 9/11, was recently cloned as part of BioArts' Golden Clone Giveaway. Trakr's owners are being presented today with four perfect (and not at all creepy) clones of Trakr, who sadly passed away in April.
Curious how it was done? To clone Trakr, Dr. Hwang Woo-suk and his team replaced the genes in canine eggs with genes from Trakr, stimulated the eggs to spur them to develop into embryos, then transferred the embryos to dogs who served as surrogate mothers.
Mother Nature would be proud.
Another One of Martha Stewart's Pets -- Not Living
For the second time this year Martha Stewart is burying one of her beloved animals.
Martha just posted the following message on her Twitter page:
"Mozart the cat just died -- he was nineteen and did indeed have a beautiful life. we just buried him next to pawpaw -- he was a lynx himalayan."
Stewart's dog, Ghengis Kahn, died in a freak explosion at a kennel back in March. Her 13-year-old pooch PawPaw passed away in April of '08.
R.I.P. Mozart.

Student Whips Out Snake Plays With It
It's hilarious in theory, but when a student actually grabbed a snake from his biology class and tried to use it as a jump rope... the cops weren't laughing.
Pittsburgh police claim some dumbass 17-year-old took a living, breathing snake out of his biology class Monday and tried to play some double dutch with it.
Fortunately, the snake survived and is currently being examined by a vet. As for the kid -- cops say he'll be charged with theft and cruelty to animals.
Still, one completely inappropriate question remains -- how many revolutions did he get before he got caught?

Criss Angel -- The Tail of the Missing Cat
Criss Angel is in the middle of a serious hostage situation -- and the hostage is a cute little kitty cat.
The Vegas magician is accused of taking a fluffy lil' feline belonging to fellow Vegas showman Jeff Beacher -- and now Beacher is getting his lawyers involved in an attempt to get his pet back.
In a strongly-worded letter fired off to Angel, Beacher accuses Angel of jacking the animal from a friend who was supposed to be watching the cat while Beacher mourned the death of his father.
Beacher claims Angel not only refuses to give it back -- but worse yet, he says the "Mindfreak" taunted him about the cat on the phone with comments like, "I took your cat ... he lives with me now ... the cat no longer likes you ... the cat and I have become close friends."
Now Beacher demands the safe return of the cat -- plus "the value of the use of his cat during the period of detention."
Calls to the cat have not yet been returned.
