Lady Gaga gave a speedy speech at the MTV Video Music Awards ... 'cause she's a busy artist whose gotta put on a show across town soon!

The singer-songwriter was named Artist of the Year at the VMAs Sunday night ... and, she took the stage to thank her fans and her fiancé Michael Polansky -- becoming visibly choked up as she did so.

LG then said she's sorry she can't stick around ... but, she's got a good reason -- she's actually performing at Madison Square Garden tonight!

Rick Davies -- a founding member of the band Supertramp -- has died ... according to the group.

The singer-songwriter passed away in his Long Island home on Friday after a long battle with cancer, the band announced in a public statement. The group offered its condolences to his widow, Sue Davies.

Rick founded Supertramp in 1970 with fellow singer and songwriting partner Roger Hodgson ... and the two teamed up with Dougie Thomson, Bob Siebenberg and John Helliwell to form the original lineup form 1973 to 1983.

John Zaika -- Bobby's longtime friend and the director of the documentary "Kite on a String: The Bobby Kimball Story" -- tells TMZ ... there were signs something was wrong when he was working with the "Africa" hitmaker more than a decade ago, indications like severe hearing loss and some "off behaviors."

The Toto singer noticed something might be wrong with his memory in 2019, so he confided in his wife, Jasmin. They sought help at UCLA's Memory Clinic and he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia that same year -- BTW, the same form of dementia Bruce Willis was diagnosed with in 2023.
