BET Awards The White Elephant in the Room

Published | Updated

Hang on tight -- its about to get racial up in here. TMZ has learned that 2007 could be the first year that a white musician wins a Black Entertainment Television Award ... besides Michael Jackson.

Platinum-selling superstar Robin Thicke has been nominated for two BET Awards: Best Male R&B Artist, and his song "Lost Without You" is up for a Viewer's Choice Award. Only two other white artists have ever even been nominated for a BET Award -- Justin Timberlake and Eminem -- but neither of them took home the prize. Could Robin break down the BET color barrier?!

The competition is thick; Thicke is up against Akon, John Legend, Gerald Levert, and Ne-Yo for Best Male, and competing with Beyonce, Birdman & Lil' Wayne, Bow Wow featuring Chris Brown, Ciara and UNK for the Viewer's Choice.

The BET Awards will be live from The Shrine in Los Angeles, Tuesday, June 26.

David Hyde Pierce Thanks Everyone and His Lover

Published | Updated

After being somewhat publicly outed in an Associated Press interview last month, "Frasier" star David Hyde Pierce did not pull a Hilary Swank -- and remembered to thank his longtime partner, Brian Hargrove, during his Tony award acceptance speech. Sorry, Daphne, Niles was on the DL!

After acknowledging a laundry list of agents, managers and cast members for his winning role in the Broadway musical "Curtains," Pierce thanked "My partner Brian, cause it's 24 years of listening to your damn notes. That's why I'm up here tonight." A real class act!

While this was his first Tony win, Pierce has four Emmys for his work on "Frasier."

Silverman Stresses Miss Hilton

Published | Updated

Paris Hilton looked ready to burst into tears during the MTV Movie Awards -- and a TMZ spy says that she took off from the audience after one of host Sarah Silverman's biting cracks. Thank God for waterproof mascara!

Silverman announced, "In a couple of days, Paris Hilton is going to jail," which was followed by a huge roar of approval from the Gibson Amphitheater crowd -- and a tight reaction shot of the distressed heiress.

Silverman went on to say, "As a matter of fact, I heard that to make her feel more comfortable in prison, the guards are going to paint the bars to look like penises." Silverman paused for the laugh and continued, "I think it's wrong, too. I just worry that she's going to break her teeth on those things." Low blow, Sarah!

Hallie's Internship is Better Than Yours

Published | Updated

TMZ sent summer intern Hallie to the MTV Movie Awards for her first big kid assignment. Here's her take on the day's events:

2:53 PM I finally made it!

MTV Movie Madness

I had to do some detective work on my way here. I knew that the awards show was at the Gibson Amphitheater. I plugged that sucker into my GPS and was on my way. Oops ... forgot about that whole super-tight security thing. Some parking attendants told me that I had to park in a specific parking structure -- Jurassic Parking. Oh, how clever! It was next to impossible to find. I had to ask at least four different people before I was even close. After I parked, I had to go to EB Games in Universal City to pick up my press pass. Keep in mind; this is all new to me! Me with the press? I had a press pass for a concert once, but that's about it. I am still in college for God's sake!

After getting the runaround (surprise, surprise) from a number of Universal Studios employees, I finally made it to the "Bloggers Room" on the back lot of Universal Studios Hollywood. That might sound a lot fancier than it actually is. Technically, I am sitting in a tent with a lot of wires and dim lights. But hey, there is air conditioning and free food!

Will LiLo Stand Up MTV?

Published | Updated

Will Lindsay Lohan pull a Whitney at this year's MTV Movie Awards and not show up? As of last week, La Lohan was still on MTV's star-studded roster, which includes Mandy Moore, Jessica Alba, Katherine Heigl, and current and former Justin Timberlake flames Jessica Biel and Cameron Diaz. The L.A. Times spoke with MTV spokesperson Emily Yeomans, who said that they "just don't know" for sure if LiLo's going to be able to get a pass from Promises to attend. A very connected TMZ source told TMZ he/she would "shocked" if she appeared.

Spec-ulation on MTV Movie Awards

Published | Updated

With the MTV Movie Awards slowly creeping up, one question remains: What goodies can the stars plan on walking away with just for showing up?

Some of the female swag hags can hide their star eyes behind Soda Sunglasses. The trendy eyewear will be given away at a pre-MTV Movie Awards event thrown by the Silver Spoon in Beverly Hills, with swag pigs going hog wild.

Some of the Beach Goddeses in this hot gallery might want to consider hitting up the suites to grab some new specs. As to covering up the rest of their body; nothing more than strong sunblock is suggested.

Nick Cannon -- Breakthrough Actor?

Published | Updated

It's true! Nick Cannon, from MTV's "Wild 'N Out," is being honored today at the Cannes Film Festival. Apparently, someone feels that his performance in "Bobby" was groundbreaking -- and qualifies Canon as the "Breakthrough Actor of the Year."

That's quite an accomplishment for someone whose prior memorable moments include improv fart noises and "yo mama's so fat" jokes.

A legend in the making.

Sarah Silverman's Puppy Love

Published | Updated

TMZ has obtained video of Sarah Silverman giving her dog a mouth-to-mouth kiss, allegedly to promote new gig as host of the MTV Movie Awards.

The video, shot for the "Best Kiss" segment of the show, has Silverman moving toward her small black dog, turning it over, and planting a wet one on its mouth. Someone please tell the dog where that mouth has been!

In addition to Sarah's animal love, the show will feature performances by Rihanna, Jay-Z, and British bombedshell Amy Winehouse's first live TV performance in the states.

The MTV Movie Awards will air live, Sunday June 3.

MTV Has VMAs on Lockdown!

Published | Updated

You want your VMAs? Pay attention -- this year you're only going to get one shot.

TMZ has learned MTV is set to announce tomorrow that the 2007 Video Music Awards will be held in Las Vegas on September 9 at the Palms Hotel and Casino. Not only will the awards show air that Sunday, but MTV plans on turning Vegas out that entire weekend. Time to book that Southwest flight!

In addition, what happens in Vegas really will stay in Vegas. The network, notorious for running its awards shows over and over ad nauseum, has changed its tune. This year's VMAs will only be seen once, broadcast live in its original form. Remixed versions of the show will be run, created by and for you -- the viewer. If you only want to watch the rap-related awards -- that's what you'll get.

We're told MTV thought the Palms' owners, uber-celebufriends the Maloofs, would be a perfect fit for this year's event.

Think we can get a comp buffet (or two)?

Snoop Dogg Not the 'Sort of Bloke' Oz Wants

Published | Updated

Snoop Dogg just got dogged by Australia, which is barring entry of the rapper because of his extensive rap sheet, making this the second time in two months he's been shut out of another country.

The Doggfather (real name: Calvin Broadus) was supposed to fly into Sydney this week to co-host the MTV Australia Video Music Awards, but Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews says Snoop didn't pass their character test and added, "He doesn't seem the sort of bloke we want in this country." Arf!

The last time Snoop was in Oz, he overstayed his visa by two days and got an official warning. He has 28 days to appeal the decision, but his L.A. based lawyer had no comment this morning.

Just last month, he and Diddy had to scrap a tour after he was denied entry by the UK.

Joan & Melissa Replaced By "Dancing" Fembot

Published | Updated

The TV Guide Channel has replaced veteran red carpet fashion mavens Joan & Melissa Rivers with Lisa Rinna! Who will you be wearing?

Rinna has signed a multi-year contract with the network, which will see the former "Dancing with the Stars" booty shaker hosting five red carpet pre-shows and five fashion recap shows, beginning with the Emmy Awards in September. TV Guide says they chose Rinna because, "In addition to being an established TV star, she also has fashion expertise as both a business person and commentator, so she is a great fit for this role and for our brand." Lisa owns two L.A. area boutiques called Belle Gray.

The network released a statement saying, "TV Guide Channel is very appreciative of Joan and Melissa Rivers' contributions to the success of our Red Carpet programming over the past three years. We wish them the best in their future endeavors." Snap!

While it is not known where the mother/daughter team will end up next, Joan Rivers, through a rep, told TMZ, "I will tell you my true feelings and experiences, as soon as we finalize our new deal." Can we talk?!

Joan, who invented red carpet fashion reporting as we know it, and daughter Melissa had been with TV Guide since January 2005, after leaving E!
