George Floyd's family members are trying to wrap their heads around what they view as an "insane" move by Minnesota Republicans to honor Derek Chauvin ... and they suspect the Kevin Hart roast played a role here.
Travis Cains, spokesman for The Gianna and George Floyd Foundation, tells TMZ … the family sees the Minnesota GOP's moment of silence for Floyd's convicted killer as a shocking display that piggybacks off those who shrugged off Tony Hinchcliffe's firestorm-creating quip at Kevin's roast.
We're told the Floyd family feels like Tony's joke "opened up doors for more racism" ... and they're seeing that play out in Minnesota.
Travis says ... "To put a guy on the pedestal and hold a moment of silence for him is insane. The whole world knows that the public lynching of George Floyd was tragic." He adds the foundation and family work to spread a peaceful, positive message.

Kevin disagrees with the haters, telling "The Breakfast Club" ... Tony is not a racist, and he was fine with the Floyd line in the context of a roast.
CH unloaded on the comics when she dropped by Deon Cole’s "Funny Knowing You" podcast ... saying she was disgusted by their remarks, especially quips about lynching and Sheryl Underwood’s dead husband, who died by suicide.
Roast viewers could tell Chelsea was not a fan of either during the show ... and she came out guns blazing for both when it was her turn at the mic.
Terrence Floyd sat down for an interview on "The Latest with Loren LoRosa"... and he was asked who should've stepped in to stop Hinchcliffe from mocking Floyd's murder by saying he was "looking up at us all, laughing so hard he can't breathe."
Floyd says his family was especially hurt by the joke because Hart attended Floyd's funeral in Minnesota back in the day ... and he feels Hart should've stepped up in the moment and cut Hinchcliffe off.

Tiffany told us she was preoccupied, having to pee, and didn't catch it when Tony Hinchcliffe made a crack about Floyd -- who was killed in 2020 when a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck until he couldn't breathe.
TH claims she didn't hear the joke, so she didn't comment on the controversial quip itself. But she did note that people who seem to be complaining are comedians who weren't invited to the show.
