Nicky Katt -- a recognizable character actor who appeared in dozens of well-known shows and movies -- has died ... TMZ has confirmed.
Attorney John Sloss -- head of the firm that repped Katt, Sloss Law -- confirmed Nicky's death ... though he did not provide any more details.
Nicky got his start in acting way back in the early 1980s ... appearing in bit parts on "Fantasy Island" and "CHiPs."

The man who attacked Steve Buscemi on a New York City street last year reportedly offered an apology while being sentenced in the case this week ... though he tacked a caveat onto his mea culpa.
Clifton Williams -- the 51-year-old man who punched Buscemi in an east Manhattan neighborhood last May -- was sentenced to six months in jail, plus five years' probation for attacking Buscemi and another individual on the same day.
Williams pleaded guilty to the two attacks last month, and he apologized in court according to the New York Post ... though he did seem to indicate something went down between him and Buscemi to provoke the attack.

Val Kilmer's cause of death has been revealed ... the legendary actor died from pneumonia, TMZ has learned.
TMZ has obtained the death certificate released by the Los Angeles County Department of Health. Kilmer's immediate cause of death has been confirmed as pneumonia. Underlying causes listed on the death certificate are acute hypoxemic respiratory failure, chronic respiratory failure, and squamous cell carcinoma of the base of the tongue.
Other contributing factors include malnutrition, and a tracheocutaneous fistula. We've also learned he was cremated on April 7.

Actor and comedian Russell Brand won't be addressing the halls of higher learning this week after all ... a college in Florida has decided to reschedule a speaking engagement after confirming his attendance earlier this week -- all this in the wake of sexual assault allegations against him.
Brand -- who's facing charges in London of sexual assault by four women, as well as a lawsuit and an investigation in NYC on similar charges -- was set to take part in a panel discussion at the New College of Florida this weekend about free speech and censorship.
A spokesman for the college tells TMZ the decision to reschedule "follows changes in event logistics," listing the unavailability of the venue where the event was planned to be held, and citing ticket availability issues.

Harvey Weinstein is inserting himself into the Justin Baldoni-Blake Lively legal battle ... and blasting the New York Times for allegedly doing the same thing to him that the paper of record did to Baldoni.
The jailed Hollywood producer issued a scathing statement to TMZ about the NYT's role in the bitter legal fight between Justin and Blake over their 2024 movie, "It Ends with Us."
As you know, Blake and Justin starred in the film and Justin directed it, but it ended with both filing lawsuits against each other -- Blake accused Justin of sexual harassment and smearing her name ...
