The fight for Karmelo Anthony's freedom is heading into the next round ... and a new group of heavyweight attorneys are now leading his effort to overturn his murder conviction.
A team including Texas NAACP President Gary Bledsoe, veteran appellate lawyer Russell Wilson II, and civil rights attorney Brooke Cluse announced Monday it has taken over Anthony's case and will conduct an independent review of the trial record while pursuing all available avenues of appeal.
As TMZ previously reported, Anthony was convicted of murdering Austin Metcalfand sentenced earlier this month to 35 years in prison. He had signaled he wasn't done fighting the case almost immediately ... filing a notice of appealless than 24 hours after his conviction.
The death of ElenaKatherineMoore-- a personal trainer in South Carolina who was confirmed dead last Friday -- remains a mystery for now ... her autopsy found no obvious cause of death and no signs she suffered any traumatic injuries.
Authorities say the examination revealed no bruising, cuts, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, blunt-force trauma, strangulation, or other external injuries ... leaving investigators waiting until they can determine exactly what happened.
The preliminary autopsy was conducted Saturday, according to Lexington County Coroner MargaretFisher, who says additional tests -- including histological studies and toxicology screening -- are still underway. Until those results come back, the cause and manner of Moore's death remain pending.

We zoomed in on the paperwork and snapped photos of the results ... and, it seems the algae readings are mostly low.
It looks like algae levels were graded on a scale from 0-5, with zero meaning little algae. Most readings are 0s and 1s, but one result appears to be higher ... check the photos and judge for yourself.

A 51-year-old man died after falling during rock band Goose's concert at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, according to authorities.
NYPD said officers responded around 9:51 p.m. after finding the man unconscious and unresponsive inside the arena. We're told by officials the man's wife was on scene and the incident is not being looked at as a crime.
Police said the concertgoer fell from an elevated area within the venue ... he was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Officials have not released details about how far he fell, however we're told he was seated in the 300s section.
