Spencer Pratt says he became a Republican because he received a ton of death threats as a reality star -- so he decided to align himself with the party that supports gun ownership.

The former star of "The Hills"-turned-Los Angeles mayoral candidate sat down for an interview Thursday with CNN anchor Elex Michaelson, who asked Spencer on "The Story Is with Elex Michaelson" why he's a Republican.

Spencer started off by saying Elex was going to break some news before explaining that he was getting a slew of death threats because he was once a "hated reality star."

Horrified passengers in Mexico got a light show they were not banking on, when a thunderbolt hit the wing of their jet.

Viva Airlines was en route to Mexico City when lightning hit the left wing ... a blinding flash of light followed.

Newly resurfaced body cam footage shows the tense moments after the infamous crash involving Mackenzie Shirilla -- capturing police officers arriving at the scene and trying to piece together what happened.

The video begins with officers pulling up to the deadly crash site in Strongsville, Ohio ... where the heavily damaged vehicle is seen destroyed near a building.

Watch the clip ... officers quickly move toward the wreckage while surveying debris scattered across the area. As police secure the scene, officers can be heard communicating with dispatch and coordinating with other first responders arriving moments later.

Spencer Pratt -- the reality star turned Los Angeles mayoral candidate -- has one hell of a political role model ... Jesus Christ himself!

That's right ... CNN anchor Elex Michaelson asked Spencer if he has a political role model during their interview Thursday on "The Story Is with Elex Michaelson."

And Spencer bluntly responded, "Jesus Christ. He was a politician." Elex seemed a bit surprised as he cracked a smile, before changing gears and asking which MODERN politician Spencer is drawn to.

Tiffany Haddish's Georgia DUI case is still dragging on ... but, she won a minor legal victory Wednesday when a judge ruled the results of one field sobriety test and statements she made to cops at the time can't be presented at trial.

A Fayette County Court judge ruled Wednesday that the officer who arrested Haddish incorrectly administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus -- or HGN -- test ... the well-known field sobriety test where an officer asks a suspected impaired driver to follow a light or finger with just their eyes.

The judge says Haddish told the officer at the time she had a lazy eye ... but he didn't ask any questions about it and administered the test without considering how it might affect the results. As such, the court found the test was not applied in a reliable manner so the results can't be used in the case against her.

According to multiple outlets, five contractors and subcontractors have filed mechanics liens against the couple's 110-acre Lewisboro, New York property in April ... claiming they're owed a combined $2.1 million for unpaid work on the sprawling estate. TMZ has confirmed the existence of the liens against the property.

The luxury compound has reportedly been under construction for years and was supposed to include a 14,500-square-foot main home, pool house, gym, geothermal systems and other high-end features.

Matthew Perry’s sister, Caitlin Morrison, trashed his assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, as she suggested he serve hard time in prison for his role in the late actor’s death, TMZ has learned. 

Caitlin wrote a letter ahead of Kenneth’s sentencing, saying she doesn’t have “sympathy” for the assistant. 

In her message, Caitlin said, “No matter what happens in the case, my big brother … will be dead.” 

Brittany Cartwright is breathing easier after that jaw-dropping tax scare ... saying the whole mess is now being handled after California tax authorities claimed she owed nearly half a million bucks.
