WNBA boss Cathy Engelbert is heading for the exit ... the league's commissioner will retire at the end of the year after a firestorm of controversy plagued this season.

Engelbert, at the helm for seven seasons, will step away at the end of the year, TMZ Sports has confirmed.

Her time at the top of the league was a mixed bag.

The W grew in many ways, from viewership and attendance to lucrative media deals. They're also expanding, with six more teams joining the league by 2030.

But many of the gains have been overshadowed by controversy.

Shangri-La may be a state of mind ... but that paradisal mindset was wrecked when people at a monument named after the famous city had to run for their lives from a massive rockslide!

You have to see the video taken at the Shangri-La Tiger Leaping Gorge scenic area in the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of China's Yunnan Province from earlier this week ... which shows huge rocks tumbling down the mountain -- while people just taking in the view sprinted from the potentially deadly debris.

The rocks slip into the rushing river below ... and, thankfully, reports indicate no one was injured during the sudden slide.

Hayden Panettiere's boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, seemed barely conscious after cops helped him get up from the floor in a bar ... before placing him in handcuffs during his 2025 arrest.

TMZ obtained video from Brian's shocking arrest in August of last year at Barney's Beanery -- a popular dive bar in West Hollywood -- which shows more of the incident that began after employees tried to boot Brian from the bar.

Lindsay Clancy's fate remains unsettled, after the judge ruled the holdout juror will remain on the case.

Clancy's lawyer, Kevin Reddington, was clearly upset, challenging the judge that he was not considering the concern of 11 jurors that the holdout is violating the law by not properly considering reasonable doubt. The judge fired back ... he has sufficiently probed and believes the holdout is fit to serve.

When the jurors walked in, and the judge was speaking to them about following the law, the female jurors were nodding their heads in agreement. The male jurors were not nodding.

Kurt Busch opened up about his brother Kyle's sudden death in a new interview ... and he's clearly still stunned by the development -- especially because he insists no one knew how sick he was.

The NASCAR star opened up about Kyle's final days in an interview on Anderson Cooper's "All There Is" podcast ... telling the veteran journalist that people around Kyle noticed he had a little cough -- but he seemed totally fine otherwise.

He notes Kyle won a race -- the 2026 Ecosave 200 Craftsman Truck Series race at Dover Motor Speedway -- days before he died ... and even visited an indoor go-kart track with his son two days before he passed.

Amber Eggers -- who starred on the show "Love After Lockup" -- has died after being hospitalized in Georgia, TMZ has learned.

Her mom, Monica Eggers, tells TMZ ... Amber died Thursday night at a hospital in Atlanta after she was admitted several days earlier because she wasn't feeling well. Monica said doctors couldn't keep Amber's heart beating any longer, and her daughter ultimately died from acute liver failure.

You may recall ... Amber appeared on Season 2 of We TV's popular reality series, "Love After Lockup," which aired in 2019. Amber was dating Vincent Gonzalez while she was behind bars, and they even got engaged ... but their relationship ended after she got out.

Andrew and Tristan Tate have been indicted on multiple charges in Romania.

Romania's Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism announced the indictment on Friday ... stating that it stems from an investigation into two British men from the same family, aged 39 and 38.

Local media identified these two people as the Tate brothers.

Andrew has been indicted for trafficking minors, money laundering, sex with a minor, and witness tampering, while Tristan was indicted for complicity.

Kanye West and Big Sean have finally buried the hatchet after their years-long feud ... with the two rappers performing together in Illinois on Thursday.

Ye hit the stage at Soldier Field in Chicago Thursday night and, at one point during the show, he brought out a special guest, who just happened to be his Detroit-based former protege.

Ye first announced to the packed crowd, "Had to bring my homie from the D out," and then Sean rode a lift up to the huge globe-shaped stage. Former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin found himself behind bars Thursday for contempt of court -- and he was reportedly arrested on the set of a Christmas film.

Police busted Bevin while he was playing an extra on the set of the holiday movie production in Bourbon County, KY, according to Louisville Public Media.

The ex-governor was then transported to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections, where he was booked for "contempt of court libel/slander resistance to order." Bevin also posed for his not-too-happy mug shot.

Jax Taylor is calling out his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright, claiming she told him he should move away and leave her and their son alone ... TMZ has learned.

In court docs, Jax told the judge in his pending restraining order case that he has been sober for close to 2 years. He said Brittany “continues to say many insulting things and offensive things to humiliate, intimidate, and scare me, as if she wants to shake me to my core and make me relapse.”

Jax said Brittany previously told him, “You’re never ever going to work again, nobody wants a disgusting abuser drug addict like you, you need to literally go away and never return,” adding, “Move away.”

Carla Jeffery's family is asking for help to lay the Disney star to rest after her tragic death.

The family launched a GoFundMe on Wednesday to cover Carla's funeral expenses and burial costs.

They wrote ... "This is an incredibly painful and difficult time for our family, and we are doing our best to come together, grieve, and make sure Carla has the support needed to handle the funeral and burial arrangements."
