Mandisa Gets Some "Respect" -- But Not from Simon!

Published | Updated

While her fellow "Idol" wannabeens are off playing high-profile gigs at malls and housing developments, Season 5 castoff Mandisa brought the house down at a South Carolina fair. Sing it, girl!

The big-voiced diva headlined the Fall for Greenville festival last week, singing covers of classics like Aretha Franklin's "Respect." Sock it to me!

The 31-year-old also had some choice words for her former "Idol" judge, Simon Cowell. Watch TMZ TV to see what Mandisa had to say!

While Brit's in Court, K-Fed Films, Parties

Published | Updated

What was K-Fed doing while Britney was fighting for supervised visitation with their Sean and Jayden? Why, filming yet another episode of "One Tree Hill," of course. Daddy's got some bills to pay!

After filming wrapped, Kev and crew toddled over to a local bar for a night of heavy partying, reports People. At one point, the DJ played Brit-Brit's new jam, "Gimme More," but Federline failed to bat an eyelash. "He didn't have a reaction. He wasn't dancing," said one clubgoer.

American Idol's Underage Drama

Traveling with the "American Idol" tour isn't just child's play -- and the U.S. Department of Labor can prove it. This past week, 19 Touring, the parent company of "American Idols Live Tour '07," was fined $5,000 for violating child labor laws. The reason? Underage performers Jordin Sparks and Sanjaya Malakar.

The Labor Department also says that 19 Touring lacked a certificate of eligibility to employ singers under the age of 18. Who says Sanjaya's a singer?

The company eventually filed the proper paperwork but will still have to pay a fine.

Rosie: I Made J.Lo

Jennifer Lopez was just Jenny from the block -- fat and clumsy Jenny from the block, when she got her start, says squeaky-voiced Rosie Perez in the new issue of Out magazine. Rosie says it was she, not Keenan Ivory Wayans, who hired Lopez as a dancer on the hit '90s comedy show "In Living Color." "He didn't want her because she was overweight and didn't dance well, but I said, 'she has star quality.'"

Deep Discounts on "American Idol" Irregulars

Published | Updated

Justin Guarini and Kimberley Locke didn't win "American Idol," but they are charging on with their careers and performing -- at the opening of a Texas outlet mall! For the love of Tiffany!

While it may not be as high profile as a residential development or a regional hot air balloon festival, Justin and Kimberley will be doing their best to entertain discount shoppers at the grand opening of The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso on Friday. "From Justin to Kelly" never looked so good! To add insult to injury, Kimberley's name is even spelled wrong in one instance.

At this rate, it won't be long before Bo Bice is at a multiplex near you -- singing in the parking lot!

"Idol" Reject Corey Clark -- Headed to Slammer?

Published | Updated

"American Idol" wannabeen Corey Clark is best remembered for an alleged dalliance with Paula Abdul. Now his hits just keep coming -- legal hits, that is.

TMZ has learned that Clark could be spending a year in the pokey, after he plead guilty last week to trespassing on his father-in-law's property, and in the process, violated a restraining order taken out by his estranged wife (yes, he's married!).

Kat McPhee: Puppy = Yes, Ring = No

Published | Updated

Taking a stroll through New York City on Saturday, "Idol" star Katherine McPhee looked amazing in a simple blue dress, but it's what she didn't have on that is of note.

Rumors circulated last week that Kat and her 42-year-old boyfriend were engaged, but the only accessory seen in this pic that's small enough to fit on her finger is her little chihuahua, Nena.

That little pup weighs about as much as a brilliant cut, four carat, platinum ring. Ay, chihuahua!

Sanjaya -- Loser of the Year

Published | Updated

He's been, thankfully, out of the limelight since "Idol" ended -- but Sanjaya was seen in Hollywood last night, hair and all.

The horrendous crooner was a guest of horror honor at the FOX Reality Channel Really Awards, walking away with the coveted Favorite Loser trophy.

Though he didn't exactly win big inside, at least one person still likes him -- a girl was heard shouting, "You're the hottest." No word on if she had 20/20 vision.

"Idol" Judges to Britney: We Want You!

Published | Updated

"American Idol" judges Simon, Randy and Paula believe they have what it takes to bring back Britney's career.

In an announcement to FOX News, Simon Cowell says that, among other things, getting her "away from her stupid friends" will help revive her career.

"MTV ratings are up and all we're hearing is Britney, Britney, Britney!" Simon said. "She can turn it around." Could this bring Britney's career back from its Las Vegas grave?

It is unclear whether they want Britney to be a guest star or a contestant.

Seacrest -- Unbrotherly Love

Published | Updated

It's called the "City of Brotherly Love" -- but Ryan Seacrest had little love for the latest round of "Idol" auditions held in Philadelphia.

TMZ cameras caught the "Idol" host before his jog outside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in NYC on Sunday -- sporting an iPod and an inconspicuous Ed Hardy hat. When asked about the upcoming season of the juggernaut that is "American Idol," Ryan said they "weren't great ... for 20,000 people, we only found a few good ones." Is that a change?

Auditions continue this week in Charleston, with stops to follow in Miami, San Diego, Atlanta, Dallas and (random) Omaha. The new season premieres in January on FOX.

Corey Clark F'ed Again

Published | Updated

The train wreck that is Corey Clark is in trouble again. Shocker!

Clark, of failed "American Idol" fame, was in a North Little Rock District Court last week where he plead guilty to possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Arkansas judge fined him a total of $850 plus court costs, and gave him two years probation. He also waived his extradition rights -- which means he can now face charges on two outstanding warrants he's facing in Arizona. Sweet!

The warrants are for aggravated harassment and interference in judicial proceedings, both misdemeanors. As we speak, he's being transported "Harrison Ford in 'The Fugitive' style" back to Arizona. Help me, Paula Abdul!

Broadway Not Aiken for Claymates Musical

Published | Updated

An "American Idol"-themed musical inspired by Clay Aiken and his army of obsessive fans has gone up in smoke just one day after it went up in lights on a Broadway marquee. Did we mention it was about Clay Aiken obsessives?

"Idol: The Musical," billed as a satirical look at a troupe of Clay-mates from Ohio, opened two days ago at the 45th Street Theater, and promptly flopped like Clay's clammy hand on Kelly Ripa's mouth just a day later. The show's producer, Todd Ellis, said that he was shutting down the show because of a "lack of advance ticket sales, a lack of positive feedback from audience members and critics and a lack of sustainable financial resources." The rough English translation? It sucked real bad.

Backstage magazine called "Idol" "interminable, amateurish, headache-inducing," and that was just in the first paragraph of its review. Just for the record, neither Aiken nor "American Idol" the show were involved in the production.
