Nicole Murphy decided to tell the world she had broken up with Michael Strahan -- right when he was entering the Hall of Fame -- because that's when she "confirmed" he was unfaithful.

A source close to the couple tells TMZ ... Nicole first got wind Michael might be dating another woman in early July and started investigating ... the way scorned women do. We're told she was finally convinced it was true on Friday and immediately decided to go public.

The source did not know the nature of Nicole's proof.

We're told Nicole insists her timing wasn't out of revenge, rather a total coincidence because that's when she knew for sure. It just happened to come precisely when Michael was getting the greatest honor of his career.

Other sources tell us Nicole and Michael have been broken up for several weeks -- and, in fact, their bi-coastal relationship has been on and off for almost 2 years ... since Michael took the 'Live' gig.

Ultimately this may come down to that old "Friends" theory -- but we're told Nicole definitely did NOT think they were "on a break."

Reps for Michael and Nicole have not responded to calls for comment.

Michael Strahan and Nicole Murphy have called off their engagement ... just one day before he's inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Strahan's rep says it's all about 2,475 air miles -- he lives in NYC and she's in L.A. and it's just too difficult. It's especially hard because they're both real busy.

Murphy was married to Eddie Murphy ... and Strahan divorced Jean Muggli in 2006.

We shot the "Hollywood Exes" star last month after Strahan was threatened by a homeless guy with a knife -- and she seemed in the dark. Now we know why.

Earlier today, The Custodial Support Foundation put out a press release saying "Hollywood Exes" star Andrea Kelly hired them to call out R. Kelly for falling behind on his child support -- but the singer's rep says their claim is BS ... and he's all paid up

Andrea's lawyer backs him up too ... telling TMZ his client says Kelly is up to date on his payments.

A rep for the C.S.F. tells us they're issuing a retraction to their story.

One of Eddie Murphy's baby mamas is now suing over "Hollywood Exes" -- claiming she came up with the idea for the reality show back in 2008 and producers STOLE it from her ... then cast one of Eddie's OTHER exes in her place.

Tamara Johnson filed the lawsuit against producers Lynch-Dyson Entertainment, claiming she pitched an idea to Vernon Lynch in 2008 called "The Hollywood ExClub" about a group of celebrity baby mamas ... inspired by her own relationship with Eddie Murphy ... but the discussions went nowhere.

Then in 2011, Tamara says she got wind VH1 was making a show called "Hollywood Exes" -- produced by Lynch-Dyson -- which she claims was a complete rip-off of her idea.

The show eventually premiered in 2012, starring girls Tamara had in mind for her own show ... like Andrea Kelly. But the biggest slap in the face ... Eddie Murphy's other ex Nicole Murphy was cast instead of Tamara.

Tamara claims she contacted Lynch-Dyson many times about getting credit -- and money -- for her role in creating the show ... but she's been nothing but rebuffed.

Nicole Murphy has gotten way too big for her britches now that her fiance Michael Strahan snagged the morning show with Kelly Ripa ... at least according to her former reps who say she's acting like a monster, publicly trashing and destroying their business in the process.

The ZLP Group has hired a lawyer, who fired off a nasty, threatening letter to Nicole. In the letter -- obtained by TMZ -- the lawyer claims Nicole has "started rumors, misstatements and misrepresentations" which have defamed the PR group.

ZLP's lawyer, Donald Karpel, says Murphy's smack talking has destroyed his client's relationship with QVC, several NYC fashion week designers and a TV show.

Karpel promises in the letter he will file a lawsuit against her for breach of contract (allegedly firing the firm without cause) and defamation -- based on her "poor conduct."

Michael Strahan and his fiancée Nicole Murphy are having the BEST WEEK EVER ... TMZ has learned Murphy's reality show "Hollywood Exes" just got picked up for a 2nd season.

Sources tell TMZ -- the VH1 show, which stars the ex-wives of Prince, Will Smith, R. Kelly and Eddie Murphy (Nicole) ... will see a 12-episode second run, after its fate remained unknown for weeks.

The news comes on the SAME DAY that Michael officially debuted as Kelly Ripa's new co-host on "Live! With Kelly."

The former NFL star was actually chillin in the Caribbean with his smokin' hot fiancée, Nicole Murphy, when he got the phone call of the decade ... that he was chosen to join Kelly Ripa as her new co-host.

Sources close to the show tell us, Strahan was through the roof excited when he found out the stellar news and it made his Jamaican get-away that much better.

We're told he and his fiancée celebrated the gig by simply relaxing on the beach and taking in the amazing sites.

The ex-wife of Keenan Ivory Wayans is about to embark on a brand new adventure ... by playing the ex-wife of Keenan Ivory Wayans ... on the VH1 reality show "Hollywood Exes."

Sources tell us, Daphne Wayans -- who was married to Keenan from 2001 to 2004 and has 5 children with him -- will join the cast for the second season of the VH1 show ... just as soon as they get picked up by the network.

Wayans will be in good company ... joining the exes of Prince, R. Kelly, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy and Jose Canseco as they try to come out of their husbands' shadows and into their own.

Ya know ... by using their famous last names.
