Lindsay Lohan was EXTREMELY hesitant to shoot a steamy sex scene for her new movie "The Canyons" last week -- but we're told, she quickly changed her mind ... after the crew fulfilled an extremely unusual request.

Sources connected with production tell TMZ, the scene required Lindsay to go topless -- but she was so uncomfortable with the idea of baring her bosom in front of the set's 10-man crew, she asked them to strip down with her ... to their boxers.

The crew was hesitant at first -- but according to sources, they eventually obliged, stripping down and shooting the entire scene in their skivvies ... and it all went off without a hitch.

You'd think Lindsay would be used to the idea of baring her lady bits -- she posed nude in one of the most widely-viewed Playboy issues of all time -- but who are we to judge?

Hilary Swank decided to bow out early in her legal battle against an electronics company in California ... dropping the lawsuit she had filed against them for using her pretty mug without permission.

If you recall, Swank filed a suit against Robert's Home Audio and Video in May, alleging they illegally used an image of her from the film "Million Dollar Baby" on their company website, without consent.

The Oscar winner has since filed legal docs in L.A. Superior Court, asking a judge to drop the case. The case was officially dismissed on July 19.

Robert Yates -- the lawyer for the home and audio co -- tells TMZ ... he believes the actress scrapped the suit because her case was weak to begin with and it just wasn't worth the effort, adding "It's a lot of bother for very little potential benefit."

The family of a stuntman who was killed during an explosion on the set of "​The Expendables 2" is suing producers ... claiming they failed to take proper safety precautions during a stunt-gone-wrong in Bulgaria.

According to the lawsuit, Kun Liu was shooting an action scene that took place on a rubber boat near the Ognyanovo Reservoir on October 27, 2011. The scene involved the use of high powered explosives and other "ultra-hazardous activities."

But something went horribly wrong ... and according to the suit, 26-year-old Liu was killed during the filming of the scene.

Liu's parents blame the production company, Millennium Films, and the stunt coordinator, Chad Stahelski ... and now they're suing both parties for wrongful death.

Liu's family believes they should be compensated for funeral expenses ... and for the loss of their son's "society, love, comfort, attention, services and support."

"Dark Knight Rises" is on track to pull in north of $160 million for the 3-day opening, despite the tragedy surrounding the flick ... this according to reports.

The major Hollywood studios aren't reporting official box office numbers yet out of respect for those affected by the massacre in Aurora on Friday ... but The Hollywood Reporter is estimating the film will take in a solid $160 million.

Prior to Friday's theater shooting, the film was estimated to pull in around $170 million, according to THR.

Despite the lower number, it will still make Christopher Nolan's third "Batman" installment the highest grossing 2D release of all time ... and will beat the opening of last year's "Dark Knight", which capped out at a $158.4 million in its first weekend.

"The Avengers" still takes the crown for best opening ever ... raking in $207.4 million.

Anne Hathaway -- who plays Catwoman in "Dark Knight Rises" -- just released a statement about Friday's tragic massacre in Aurora, Colorado ... which left 12 dead and 58 injured.

The actress says, "My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act. I am at a loss for words how to express my sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."

Following the decision to cancel the Paris premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises," the movie's stars, Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway, hopped aboard a private jet yesterday at a private airport.

Warner Bros. has also canceled appearances by the cast scheduled for Mexico and Japan.

Funny man DeRay Davis is dead serious about not taking any chances when it comes to seeing "The Dark Knight Rises" after yesterday's tragic incident ... telling TMZ he's only buying his tickets for daytime showings.

TMZ spoke to Davis outside the movie theater at The Grove in L.A. Friday ... we asked him if the Colorado shooting would affect his decision to see Chris Nolan's hotly anticipated new flick.

Davis gave us some words of wisdom about it ... saying that "fools" don't come out until after 9:00 PM so we're safer in the daylight. He also said he'll let his kids watch it -- but only from home.

"Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of 'The Dark Knight Rises', I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community.

I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime.

The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me.

The studio behind "The Dark Knight Rises" is removing all images and references to guns from all "Batman" movie trailers ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell TMZ ... the honchos at Warner Bros. gave the order just a few hours after the shooting in Colorado this morning.

We're told the studio is hoping to replace the current made for TV trailers with the gun-free version as soon as possible.

Halle had no visible injuries or bandages as she walked to her trailer on the LA set of "The Hive" -- her first day back at work since she was rushed to a hospital on Tuesday night.

As TMZ reported, Halle fell and hit her head while shooting a fight scene -- and people on set were concerned because she started throwing up after the fall ... a common sign of a concussion.

She's once ... twice ... three times a lady.

The producers of the new "Total Recall" remake finally debuted the brand new 3-boob'd hooker ... played by Kaitlyn Leeb ... and it's hot. hot. hot.

Leeb sported her costume at Comic-Con in San Diego this weekend ... revealing the iconic double cleavage made famous in the original Arnold Schwarzenegger version ... which was originally released back in 1990.

Check it out ... Ashton Kutcher channeling Steve Jobs today while shooting a scene for his upcoming biopic at Loyola Marymount University in L.A.

The movie -- titled jOBS -- will reportedly cover the Apple co-founder's life from 1971 to 2000 ... chronicling how he built Apple into the powerhouse it is today.

Just last month, principal photography on the film began at Steve's family home in Los Altos, California ... where Jobs and Steve Wozniak started the company out of the garage.

So far, it's unclear why producers decided to shoot at LMU.

UPDATE 6:45 AM PT -- Sources on the set tell TMZ ... after Halle fell, she started throwing up, and that's when people around her became alarmed and called for help. FYI, throwing up is a sign of a concussion.

UPDATE 5:40 AM PT -- A rep for Halle tells TMZ "Halle Berry suffered a minor head injury while shooting a fight sequence on the set of her film, 'The Hive.' She was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but she checked out healthy and was released. She'll continue production as planned."

Halle Berry was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after suffering an injury while shooting a movie.

Sources tell TMZ ... Halle hit her head on concrete after taking a nasty fall.

According to a photo agency, Halle was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in L.A. We're told the injury occurred at around 10 PM. There was an ambulance on scene, and it appears that's how Halle was transported.

Halle was shooting the movie, "The Hive." You'll recall she suffered an ankle injury during another movie shoot in Spain.

Her condition is unclear.

The mourning period is officially over -- Jackie Chan assures TMZ he is DEFINITELY not quitting action films, despite telling the press a few weeks ago he was axing his action slate to become "the Asian Robert De Niro."

We remember it like it was yesterday ... but in fact it was in May ... Jackie was promoting his new film -- "Chinese Zodiac" -- when he told reporters "This will be my last action movie."

After two months of imagining a world without Jackie beating people up ... some good news finally emerged last night when TMZ caught up with the martial-arts God outside fancy-schmancy Bouchon in Beverly Hills.

We asked Jackie point-blank about his self-proclaimed retirement and he told us, "Nooooooooo. I still do action movie."

So rest easy folks, there's still hope for "Rush Hour: 20."

James Cameron is sick and tired of people claiming he stole the concept behind "Avatar" -- and has now filed legal docs, asking a judge to dismiss a $2 billion lawsuit that says the movie wasn't his idea.

TMZ broke the story ... science fiction writer and professional nerd Bryant Moore sued Cameron for $2.5 billion back in December -- claiming Moore came up with the basic premise behind "Avatar" ... and Cameron jacked it.

In his lawsuit, Moore says Cameron pilfered several ideas from Moore's screenplays -- including bioluminescent flora/plant life, unbreathable atmospheres, matriarch support of hero vs. heroine, and spiritual connections to environment ... and reincarnation ... and .... mist.

Now, Cameron's fighting nerd fire with nerd fire -- insisting the Na'vi (the alien race in 'Avatar') are NOTHING like the Gavadeen Alliance or the Pollinators (the alien races in Moore's movies).

In fact, Cameron says NOTHING about Moore's scripts has anything to do with "Avatar" -- they're different from beginning to end.
