Tom Hanks is a dead ringer for Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, right down to the mustache, walking down a NYC sidewalk.

Hanks is in the Big Apple filming the biopic on the retired US Airways pilot who miracuously crash landed on the Hudson ... killing no one. Clint Eastwood is directing.

Good things happen when Hanks plays captain -- in WWII, on hijacked tankers or on shrimp boats.

Mariah Carey is directing a Hallmark movie for the holidays starring her favorite character, Gretchen Weiners from "Mean Girls."

Our Mariah people say she started working on "A Christmas Melody" Tuesday and made herself right at home in the director's chair. We're told Mariah had only one request, her favorite actress from her favorite movie star in the flick. Let's be serious ... she had more than one request.

Lacey Chabert, who played Gretchen Weiners in "Mean Girls" was more than happy to take the lead.

Mariah won't appear in the movie but we're told her music is featured throughout. It's unclear if MiMi tapped into directing legend Brett Ratner for advice.

"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" star Dylan O'Brien is getting called to the principal's office -- after he bragged about stealing Native American artifacts from the movie's set, he'll have to answer to 20th Century Fox studio execs.

O'Brien spilled the beans about jacking the stuff a couple weeks ago on "Live with Kelly & Michael" -- and did it in a pretty insensitive way ... admitting they'd been warned to leave any native artifacts they might stumble upon during filming. He said they took stuff anyway, and joked they'd been cursed because several cast members got sick.

TMZ spoke with Roch Hart, who manages Diamond Tail Ranch in Albuquerque -- where the movie was shot -- and he was pissed about O'Brien's comments. He told us he wasn't sure what, if anything, O'Brien and his co-stars really did take -- but said, "If the artifacts are not returned, we will be contacting our attorney."

Hart said he called 20th Century Fox, the film's distributor, on Tuesday to see if it would offer any assistance, and a few hours later he was told Fox would reach out to the cast and crew. Hart says he's been told the studio will find out if anything was taken, and if so ... make it right.

James Caan wasted no time ... less than 48 hours after he went to an emergency room, he was back at work, and smiling with his co-star Louis Gossett Jr.

TMZ broke the story ... the 75-year-old showed up to a Toronto hospital Tuesday night for a mild chest infection. He was treated and released, but we were told he'd be unable to return to set for a few days. No rest for the wicked.

James Caan checked into a Toronto hospital after suffering from a chest infection.

We're told the 75-year-old actor, who's in town filming "Operation Insanity" with Paul Sorvino, was admitted Tuesday night. Caan has since been released after being diagnosed with a mild chest infection.

A rep for James tells TMZ he will be back to work in just a few days and is doing fine.

Scott Eastwood hit the clubs Tuesday night, and no surprise, hot chicks were like glue.

Scott was at 1 OAK nightclub in West Hollywood, wearing a "Suicide Squad" t-shirt. He's one of the stars, along with Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith.

NY Giants co-owner Steve Tisch says he's still cool with Will Smith -- and is actually rooting for his new movie "Concussion" to do well ... despite the fact it's about a doctor who takes on the NFL.

The movie has been getting a TON of buzz -- with the trailer suggesting the NFL hatched a diabolical plot to intimidate a doctor into hiding evidence about the real dangers of football related brain trauma.

Tisch says he hasn't seen the movie yet, but says he's not even mad about it at all -- "I hope the movie not only entertains, but educates and empowers."

Tisch also says the NFL isn't trying to hide anything -- in fact, he's adamant the league is very proactive when it comes to head injuries.

"There's a very high level of consciousness about concussions in the NFL," says Tisch ... who claims the league is doing everything in its power to educate the players.

"Dope" co-star De'Aundre Bonds says he wasn't attacked in downtown L.A., and the gaping wound in his head was merely the result of taking a header ... all on his own.

As we reported ... Bonds was hospitalized last week when a friend found him unconscious. According to our sources, Bonds believed he'd been jumped by several attackers in DTLA, leaving him with a couple of nasty head injuries that required 10 stitches.

But when we got De'Aundre in Culver City on Monday ... he denied any attack. Listen to his version of events -- he's blaming diabetes and low blood sugar for the fall, and hints this kinda thing happens all the time.

As Bonds, who famously starred in "The Wood," puts it ... "I fall a little."

Ex-NFL superstar Shawne Merriman tells TMZ Sports ... he was approached to be a part of Will Smith's "Concussion" movie but SHOT IT DOWN.

The former San Diego Chargers linebacker says he's convinced the movie is "definitely going to give the NFL a black eye" ... but says he didn't feel right jumping aboard the project.

The movie -- set to come out in December -- is supposed to blow the lid of an alleged NFL conspiracy to hide the debilitating life-long effects of concussions from players.

"I turned it down and said 'No' ... I don't want to be a part of it because I didn't know how they were going to make it look."

Hugh Jackman was dogged by both his trainer and his pooches during a workout Saturday in NYC.

Hugh was doing sit ups with the trainer as his dogs, Allegra and Dali cruised the park. It seems it's a thing -- the Dog Pound fitness group.
