“Survivor” Season 48 contestant Eva Erickson narrowly dodged the gunman who opened fire at Brown University Saturday afternoon, but she says she's not overly worried about another shooting there.
Check out our interview -- the Ph.D. candidate says she feels "safe" while hunkered down at her off-campus residence in Providence, Rhode Island because she assumes the assailant is "long gone," reasoning ... "Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place." On the other hand, she notes the idea is "horrible" because it feels like the shooter has gotten away.
There's an intense manhunt for the gunman by local and federal authorities, and the FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information in the ongoing case. Providence Mayor Brett Smiley told ABC News Monday authorities "continue to receive zero credible threats to our community, Brown or the broader community," which he's certainly caught some flack for as the suspect remains on the lam.
Fox News
While Eva feels safe overall, she tells TMZ she and her peers have just as much information as the general public, and the lack of knowledge about the assailant has everyone "on edge." She is pining for the answers to simple questions -- how and how such a tragedy could have happened.
One thing she's sure of -- something needs to change. Eva says it's "insane" students are so vulnerable to gun violence in America, noting ... "I just wanted to go to school and learn and have this community and be safe. And now that's been taken from me." While she says she doesn't have the answers, she looks at lawmakers who are better equipped to advocate for gun safety regulations.
Nick Reiner's attorney Alan Jackson is getting a close look at the crime scene where Nick's parents -- Rob and Michele -- were stabbed to death ... he's just been spotted visiting the home where the couple's bodies were found by their daughter Sunday.
Jackson was fresh from the courthouse, where Nick WASN'T seen today, because he didn't have medical clearance to appear in court.
Watch the video ... you can see Jackson march down the usually quiet road flanked by news crews, causing a commotion with his arrival. Jackson carries a file with him, which he uses to gesture to his team, possibly instructing them on their first moves.

Hochman says Nicks is going to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and he says the charges come with stiff penalties, if convicted ... a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, or even the death penalty.
The D.A. was quick to say there's been no final decision on going after the death penalty here, but the fact he even mentioned it right off the bat is pretty interesting.

The second of 2 doctors who pleaded guilty in connection with Matthew Perry's death was sentenced Tuesday ... and the judge gave Dr. Mark Chavez a pretty light sentence.
United States District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett sentenced Chavez to eight months' home confinement and ordered him to complete 300 hours of community service.
In October 2024, Chavez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine. He quickly cut a deal with the feds after a slew of arrests were made in connection with Perry's death. Chavez admitted to selling ketamine to Dr. Salvador Plasencia, which was then sold to Perry weeks before the actor's fatal overdose.
Prosecutors said Chavez obtained the ketamine fraudulently by submitting a prescription in the name of a patient without the patient's knowledge or consent.
Earlier this month, Plasencia was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to 4 counts of distributing ketamine.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good fight! Insane video from a San Francisco restaurant shows a rowdy, belligerent patron going down hard on the sidewalk following an extended altercation with customers and staff.
Watch the video posted yesterday ... there's so much to cover. First, we see a young woman -- slurring her words and cursing loudly -- upset with a manager for apparently cutting her off from the bar. With her camera phone out, the woman appears to be planning to catch the staff "harassing" her. But while she's filming them, the rest of the customers are filming her.

The unidentified couple had been cut off for being drunk and rude
Bartender Miguel Marchese said they were verbally abrasive and difficult with staff… pic.twitter.com/peqhRbKjqY
The staff basically ignore her tirade, so the woman picks a fight with a fellow customer, violently swiping at the innocent bystander who had been recording the whole thing. The woman's date -- also visibly inebriated -- then restrains her as she swings wildly at the customer.
Then, as the woman walks away from the assault she just committed, a female staffer appears to expertly take the obnoxious young woman to the ground with a swift trip. Somebody's taken a judo class or two!

Nick Reiner -- who was arrested on suspicion of killing his parents Rob and Michele Reiner -- will NOT appear in court today for the first time since their grisly murders ... he doesn't have medical clearance.
Prosecutors were expected to decide whether and how to officially charge Nick with killing his parents ... but that will have to wait, because Nick's defense attorney, Alan Jackson, says his client is not medically cleared to appear in court.
As we first reported ... Nick is on suicide watch at Men's Central Jail in L.A., where he's being held without bail. Jackson said this morning he has not received any filing yet from prosecutors ... and he doesn't believe the court has received any filing either.
AsNick Reiner prepares to make his first court appearance ... TMZ has learned Rob and Michele had been dead for some time before their daughter made the grisly discovery Sunday.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... When police arrived on the scene Sunday afternoon around 3:40 PM, rigor mortis appeared to have set in Rob and Michele’s bodies -- meaning they had been deceased for hours before their daughter Romy arrived.
Romy arrived at the house and found the bodies ... then called police, before calling longtime family friend Billy Crystal.
Police interviewed Romy at the scene, who by then was joined by a female friend ... and we hear she told officers her brother Nick was "dangerous." We're told she also said that Nick was living at the house -- but he was not there when she arrived, insinuating he fled the scene.
Sources tell us ... the scene was something out of a nightmare -- with the bodies butchered … the devastation was described as the actions of a "mad man."
As you know, Rob and Michele were found Sunday afternoon … their son Nick was located and arrested on suspicion of murder about six hours later … he's currently being held without bail on suicide watch.
Mick Foley says he's had enough of WWE's cozy relationship with Donald Trump-- POTUS' comments on Rob Reiner's death were the last straw -- and now the wrestling legend says he's done with the world's most famous wrestling promotion.
The Hall of Fame wrestler hit up his Instagram page on Tuesday, where he made the announcement, saying ... "Reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me."
"I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy. Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office."
Nick Reiner is calling in the heavies after being arrested for allegedly murdering his famous parents ... because Alan Jackson tells us Nick hired him as his defense attorney.

As you know ... Nick was booked on murder charges after Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead Sunday in their Brentwood home ... and he's being held without bail.
