HUD Secretary Scott Turner had a pretty awkward passing of the torch at the Republican midterm convention ... appearing to try and slap Rep. Anna Paulina Luna's butt as she walked past him on her way to the stage ... and it's all on video.

Turner had just wrapped his speech Wednesday in Dallas' Trump-a-Palooza festival and was heading for the exits when Luna approached the podium ... and cameras caught him swinging his hand backward and down in her direction as the two crossed paths.

Yeah ... not exactly your standard political handshake.

Corie Walsh's former high school friend says she's struggling to reconcile the woman she knew as a teenager with the disturbing allegations now surrounding the Illinois mom accused of killing her 2-year-old son.

The former classmate tells TMZ she knew Corie during their high school years at a small Catholic school, although they hadn't been in contact since -- but says every interaction she had with Walsh was positive, remembering her as "beautiful, kind, intelligent, talented and giving."

The woman says Corie was involved in the school's poms team, Helping Hands club, senior Powderpuff games and liturgy through Mass. She says Walsh seemed to know everyone and was friendly with people from all different groups.

President Donald Trump made another eyebrow-raising promise to Americans ... vote for the GOP in the midterms, and get $5,000 if Republicans remain in power ... and of COURSE he named this wild idea after himself.

Trump told a crowd at the GOP convention in Dallas, Texas ... "If the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000. It will be called the Trump Dividend."

Despite Trump saying the payments were due to the country's "success economically," the thing is ... this would more than likely cost the country more than $1 trillion, according to AP.

Barry Melrose, the former NHL player, coach and longtime ESPN hockey analyst, has died ... his wife, Cindy, told ESPN.

Melrose joined ESPN in 1996 and retired in 2023 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

He was best known for coaching Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angeles Kings to the 1993 Stanley Cup Final before becoming one of hockey’s most recognizable TV personalities.

ESPN praised Melrose as a "distinctive and trusted" voice whose passion for the sport was unmistakable.

He was also known for his flashy suits, signature mullet and goatee ... and was beloved by colleagues and fans alike.

Barry was 70.

A.I. researcher Jacob Coxon says we don't have to worry about artificial intelligence wiping out the world ... yet.

Juror Nick Dargie told ABC News ... "There was several times I would ask him to show us evidence or, you know, describe a witness testimony that helped to prove what he was saying, and he couldn't."

Dargie explained ... "There wasn't a single piece of evidence or witness testimony that he used to prove why he was thinking the way he was, which is why we ultimately sent in that note."

A raging brush fire broke out near Los Angeles’ famed Getty Center Wednesday ... coming dangerously close to the museum, which houses millions of dollars' worth of art.

TMZ obtained photos showing plumes of smoke billowing over the Santa Monica Mountains hillside as flames burned along the side of the 405 Freeway. According to reports, the fire grew to approximately 3 acres.

Officials have issued evacuation warnings near the fire and The Getty has temporarily closed while the flames continue to blaze.

Henry Winkler is opening up about why his relationship with Tom Hanks is so tense ... and he says repairing the relationship isn't off the table.

Carmen Bryan has accused N.O.R.E. of sexually assaulting her at an NYC club in the '90s.

The 40-year-old charged with murdering her 2-year-old boy made another court appearance Wednesday ... where new details about the alleged crime came to light ... including some startling new allegations.

Prosecutors laid out a timeline for the day Corie's son was found dead by a neighbor ... claiming two other children who live at the home showed up, looked at the scene, then immediately ran and contacted a neighbor.
