As we reported, Kyle and Mauricio announced they were separating back in July, after 27 years of marriage ... but denied they were getting a divorce. They admitted they've been facing a "challenging" year, but said there was no wrongdoing on anyone's part.

Since then, they've gone on family vacations together and continue to live under the same roof. Mauricio's denied there's anything going on with his 'DWTS' partner Emma Slater, but Kyle seems skeptical -- and even referred to their split as a "divorce" during BravoCon.

Kyle has made her mark on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" and scored millions of dollars, and Mauricio has acquired a net worth of $100M with nearly $5B in real estate sales.

When he married Kyle, he wasn't even working in real estate. He was making peanuts while working in fashion before going into real estate, working for Kyle's brother-in-law Rick Hilton and then opening The Agency in 2011.

The pair's decision to separate wasn't an easy one -- Kyle broke down in tears this past weekend when asked where things stood between them during a Q&A at BravoCon.

It looks like Mauricio is having an easier time, enjoying the single life with some cozy sightings with his 'DWTS' partner, Emma Slater.

KR then started to choke up, saying she hears everyone telling her to just "fix" the problem -- but as she clearly states here, it's not nearly as simple as it sounds.

Of course, this comes on the heels of Kyle's other interview last night at BravoCon -- where she referred to their separation as an outright divorce ... a slip of the tongue, it seems.

From what we can gather ... things are rocky between the couple at the moment, and while it sounds like she and Mauricio might want to reconcile -- there are obstacles that stand in their way ... even as they continue to live under the same roof and film for 'RHOBH.'

That's something Kyle addressed Sunday too ... saying she didn't want her fights with Mauricio caught on camera, and that Bravo producers noticed something was off.

As for whether this is blossoming into a romance ... the sources couldn't say one way or another.

Of course, there's been tons of speculation about Mauricio and Kyle, whose marriage has come under a microscope this year amid KR's friendship with Morgan Wade.

Kyle has long insisted they're simply partners on a project right now ... as Kyle is producing a documentary on Morgan's life -- but some have still suggested a romance might be afoot.
