Lyft couldn't make flying cars happen in time for "Back to the Future" Day but it created the next best thing -- McFly mode, where customers get carted around NYC in a DeLorean!!

A rep from the rideshare company tells TMZ they searched high and low for the vintage whips Marty McFly and Doc Brown rode into the future -- which is today, Oct. 21, 2015.

We're told Lyft and Verizon shipped the cars to NYC, along with their owners, who drove customers around town ... some even dressing up like McFly or Doc. Best of all -- the rides are free ... but good luck getting one.

Lyft wants to maximize customer enjoyment, so rides are limited to around 15 minutes.

Keep it under 88 MPH, drivers!

Michael J. Fox was out in New York City on Wednesday morning -- aka "Back to the Future" Day -- sporting a pair of shoes he probably laced himself and getting into a car that does not go back in time.

For the uninitiated, October 21, 2015 is the date Marty McFly (Fox's character in the sequel) travels to when he goes into the future with Doc Brown to save his son from being arrested.

The movie's vision of the future included flying cars, self-drying jackets and the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series ... none of which is a reality this year.

Today's not just a huge day for "Back to the Future" loving nerds, it's also a huge day for their idols.

We're told Wednesday night will be the first time in more than 25 years the entire 'BTTF' cast will be together in the same room! They're all showing up for a screening at the Lincoln Center in NYC.

Of course, Oct. 21, 2015 is the date Marty and Doc travel back to in 'BTTF2.'

Claudia Wells, better known as Marty's girlfriend Jennifer Parker from the first film, tells TMZ even though she sees some of the cast at convention appearances from time to time ... the whole gang hasn't been together since the 1989 premiere of 'BTTF2.'

Wells already scored a bonus. She was expecting Marty, Doc Brown, Lorraine, Biff and even Mayor Goldie Wilson at tonight's screening -- but tells us she just ran into Huey Lewis in her hotel lobby Wednesday morning!

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is going way too far on the dark side -- according to the thousands upon thousands of people now accusing the upcoming film of promoting "white genocide."

We know this sounds bizarre, but there's actual Twitter unrest today with #BoycottStarWarsVII trending like crazy. The movement started shortly after a new poster for the flick was released Monday.

The poster features John Boyega -- as well as Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher ... but haters think the image is pushing black over white ... and not just the movie's main characters.

Zac Efron is sober ... and if you say otherwise, you could lose your job.

An extra on “Neighbors 2” learned that lesson the hard way this week, after he Instagrammed a pic from the set showing a baggie filled with fake weed, with the caption, "Thanks for the weed Zac Efron! BTW it's only a prop, people."

Apparently the disclaimer wasn't enough. The extra was 86'd almost immediately. Our source says it wasn't the first time the extra had gotten in trouble for inappropriate posts.

We're told Zac was not involved in the decision to fire the guy.

Efron went to rehab in 2013, so it's a sensitive subject.

Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough got soaked practicing their latest routine for "Dancing with the Stars."

If you can't tell by the picture ... they're recreating the famous Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey dance lift from "Dirty Dancing" for next week's movie night -- and seem to have already nailed it.

Bindi and Derek are already in the lead on the scoreboard ... and they're not going anywhere.

Anne Hathaway likes her eggs just so, and God help the chef who goes astray.

Hathaway was on the Paramount lot last week shooting a Japanese commercial when she ordered breakfast -- a poached egg, along with an English muffin and avocado.

The guys catering the shoot were going crazy, because she sent the dish back 4 TIMES!!

1st try: Poached egg too runny.

2nd try: English muffin was cold because it sat while egg #2 was being poached.

3rd try: Egg #2 cold because it sat while chef toasted muffin #2.

4th try: Egg, muffin and avocado were perfect, but it took so long she decided she was in the mood for a fried egg.

She's totally ovo it.

"The Martian" has some glaring errors you should know about, in case you're planning a trip.

Our photog got American astronauts Captain Jerry Linenger and Robert Curbeam, and Korean astronaut Soyeon Yi in NYC Friday, and they say the spacewalks and the Martian winds are off.

The explorers were in NYC promoting Science Channel's, "Secret Space Escapes."

"Dogg Pound 4 Life" -- the biopic based on Tupac, Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound -- is in jeopardy because Suge Knight and others want to cash in on the project, but Daz Dillinger ain't having it.

The DPG vet who's spearheading the movie broke the bad news to us at LAX. The casting and script are humming along, but Daz says the hangup is maybe the most important part -- the music!

You can tell Daz is PISSED -- he drops a few profanities -- because several parties, including Suge, are trying to block him from using his music in the flick. He insists he owns the rights, and he's ready to fight for them.

"Dogg Pound 4 Life" would pick up where "Straight Outta Compton" left off ... focusing on the rise of Death Row Records, which got folded into eOne Music when Suge had to sell.

Dylan O'Brien's name has been cleared ... 20th Century Fox says he did not steal Native American treasures while filming in New Mexico -- which means it's really bizarre that he lied about it in the first place.

As we reported ... the star of "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" bragged he and his co-stars had ignored warnings to keep their mitts off any artifacts they came across. He said they flat out stole a bunch of stuff from Diamond Tail Ranch, where the movie was shot.

The ranch owner told TMZ he reached out to 20th Century Fox to right the wrong, and now the studio says it's determined nothing was really taken. A spokesman apologized for O'Brien's comment.

As for why Dylan lied? The 24-year-old's rep hasn't responded to our calls.

Ain't always pretty, but Jared Leto wears whatever the hell he wants, and it looks good ... on him. Usually.

Leto was cruising around NYC, still sporting a pink 'do ... which we're guessing is left over from shooting "Suicide Squad."

Based on the multi-colored pants and poncho, someone might have raided the wardrobe trailer.

Daniel Craig can make all the suicide threats he wants, but as long as he's drawing breath ... he will be playing 007 -- at least according to his "Spectre" co-star Christoph Waltz.

Craig recently said he'd slash his wrists before he plays James Bond again -- which, of course, has fueled talk of a possible black Bond in the future. But no offense to the likes of Idris Elba ... "Spectre" baddie Christoph thinks Craig is just blowing smoke.

As he left No Name Bar in Hollywood Wednesday night -- C-dub was pretty definitive about who the next Bond will be. Gotta figure the guy has SOME kinda inside info. No?

Pam Anderson made it short and sweet ... good luck to producers of the " Baywatch" movie finding someone as hot as her.

Pam was leaving Craig's restaurant in WeHo Wednesday night when our photog asked about the new flick starring Zac Efron and The Rock. She was very clear on the role of C.J.

Gloria Trevi's life story is so absolutely insane it became a movie, which she says brought her to tears -- but the "Mexican Madonna" cracked up when we suggested she perform for Donald Trump.

Trevi survived one of the biggest scandals in the history of music -- after shooting to superstardom in the '90s, she and her bf/manager were accused of running a sex cult for minors. The couple fled to Brazil, and Trevi was eventually arrested there and imprisoned for nearly 5 years while awaiting trial.

Oh, and she managed to get pregnant while behind bars. When it was all said and done ... she was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Soooo ... now that her biopic "Gloria" is out, and she's reviving her career -- we wondered if she'd consider playing Trump's inauguration.

A group of women -- more than a baker's dozen -- torpedoed the London premiere of Meryl Streep's new movie over women's rights issues ... which is ironic since Streep has been one of their champions.

It's unclear if Streep was on the red carpet yet Wednesday when the protesters laid their bodies on the ground -- showing their outrage for Parliament's decision to cut funding for domestic violence services.

The women -- part of a group called Sisters Uncut with a hashtag that reads #deadwomencantvote -- never said they have a problem with Streep or her movie, "Suffragette." The flick is about a group of women in England who championed the women's right to vote movement.
