'There Will Be Blood' Star Tarantino's Austin Butler Suggestion Is 😂 ... Paul Dano Was Perfectly Cast!!!

Published

Quentin Tarantino has divided film buffs with his recent brutal criticisms of Paul Dano ... and a star of "There Will Be Blood" is calling cut on the hot take.

Here's the deal ... recently on "The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast," Tarantino tore apart Dano's work ... specifically mentioning the 2007 Daniel Day-Lewis flick. QT spit fire, proclaiming it's nearly a perfect film ... had Paul essentially not screwed it up. Needless to say, fans of the movie -- and of Dano -- were left asking ... WTF, bro?!?

Dillon Freasier, who played the child version of H.W. Plainview in 'Blood,' tells TMZ … QT is allowed his opinion -- and when it comes to cinema he's usually spot on -- but this insight missed the mark!

Quentin Tarantino I Can't Stand Paul Dano's 'Weak Sauce' Acting!

Published | Updated

Quentin Tarantino's worked with some of the biggest and baddest stars in the 'biz, but it doesn't look like he'll be collaborating with Paul Dano anytime soon ... because he just blasted one of the actor's most celebrated performances.

On Tuesday's episode of "The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast," Tarantino trashed Dano's work ... he said the 2007 flick "There Will Be Blood" would have been great without one "big giant flaw" -- you guessed it, he was talking about Dano!

If you haven't seen the flick, Dano portrays twin brothers Paul and Eli Sunday, earning a nomination for a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

Tarantino really laid into Dano in "There Will Be Blood" ... he said his performance was "weak sauce" compared to Daniel Day-Lewis, who earned an Oscar for his work in the film.

The "Kill Bill" director said Austin Butler would have been a better choice to portray the Sunday brothers ... even though Butler was still a teenager when the movie was produced.

Tarantino questioned why Day-Lewis had to costar with the "weakest male actor in SAG" and said Dano gave a "non-entity performance" in the flick.

Tarantino also said he didn't particularly care for the work of Owen Wilson or Matthew Lillard, either.

Scarlett Johansson Dishes On Her Decision To Defend Woody Allen

Published

Woody Allen's lost tons of supporters over the past few years ... but Scarlett Johansson's sticking by the beleaguered filmmaker.

The actress spoke about her connection to the director in a new interview with The Telegraph and said she wasn't sure how deep the "domino effect" of her willingness to work with Allen really ran.

However, Johansson said her mother had raised her to believe in herself and to stand up for what she believes in -- including working with Allen.

In case you needed a refresher, Allen's adopted daughter Dylan Farrow accused him of sexually abusing her when she was a child ... and her allegations gained further traction when the #MeToo movement gained steam in the late 2010s, leading several figures in Hollywood to distance themselves from the filmmaker. He's denied all the allegations, and he's never been charged with any crimes.

Johansson said she's learned about the importance of knowing when it was appropriate to speak out about touchy topics and when to hold off.

She also said she didn't want to encourage anyone to "silence" themselves when dealing with tough issues, and noted she's grown more comfortable with waiting for the right time to address a hot-button topic.

FYI ... Johansson and Allen have worked together on three movies -- namely "Match Point," "Scoop," and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," which were released in 2005, 2006, and 2008, respectively.

Johansson previously addressed her connection to Allen in a 2019 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, when she said she had "love" for the director and "would work with him anytime."
