Sanjaya Hunger Striker Powers On

Published | Updated

"J," the MySpacer who wants Sanjaya Malakar off "American Idol," is nine days into her hunger strike and feeling the effects.

She had planned to post a video entry to update fans on her condition, but instead wrote a blog Sunday night that read, "I know I promised you guys a YouTube video, but I am just feeling too tired and weak to do it tonight. I don't even know how I'm typing this right now."

The night before, she cautioned readers not to attempt a hunger strike of their own: "I got a few messages from people that say that [sic] want to join in the strike, I must reiterate over again that I do not recommend this. It's really not fun."

Perhaps it's time that "J" admits defeat and has a cheeseburger.

Simon Is Not Nigel's Bitch

Published | Updated

Simon Cowell does not get his best lines from Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe.

Star magazine reported in its current issue that Lythgoe "watches the rehearsals and writes notes on who Simon should make snarky remarks about."

TMZ spoke with Nigel today, who says it's a bunch of baloney. "I don't make notes," Lythgoe says, adding, "Simon keeps to himself in his trailer before the show with a feed, so he can listen to the music."

Lythgoe also told TMZ that none of the banter between Ryan and Simon is scripted -- "If I would have written any of that it would have been a lot funnier, to be frank." Lythgoe also said: "I wouldn't have kept this gay angst going for so long. They would have both come out by now in my story."

Arizona Jail Goes Sing Sing Over "Idol"

Published | Updated

Not only are they behind bars, they're ready to sing in one! What a con test!

Maricopa County Sheriffs have developed their own version of "American Idol," called "Inmate Idle," in which 15 jailbirds battle for lockdown supremacy, not with homemade shivs, but with their singing! According to reps from the Sheriff's Office, the competition is an attempt to boost morale and give inmates a positive way to spend their jail time.

The vote for the six finalists will be held tonight, with Alice Cooper set to judge tomorrow night's live show. It's rumored that basketball legend Charles Barkley is interested in sitting at the judge's table as well.

The Sheriff who greenlit the event, Joe Arpaio, is notorious for his "unique" treatment of prisoners -- his inmates wear pink jumpsuits and live in tents in the middle of the Arizona desert. No need to say that anyone's singing could get them arrested.

The Sanjaya Diet

Published | Updated

The MySpacer who vowed to starve herself until Sanjaya Malakar was tossed off "American Idol" has another week of starvation to look forward to.

The woman, who idenitifies herself only as "J," was not pleased that Stephanie Edwards got the boot on last night's show, leaving Sanjaya to continue "singing" at least through next week. "I'm really starting to feel sorry for Sanjaya," wrote the hungry blogger last night. "People keep voting him through because they think it's funny ... and I think it's to the point where this kid is starting to believe his own hype." Yeah, that self-confidence thing sucks.

So it's another week of water and ... well, water for "J." If Sanjaya isn't voted off soon, his singing may literally kill someone.

Starving for Sanjaya

Published | Updated

A woman on MySpace feels so strongly that Sanjaya Malakar does not belong on "American Idol" -- that she is starving herself until he is voted off the show!

Identifying herself only as "J," she is now four days into a hunger strike, saying, "I have no problems with Sanjaya personally, he seems like a very personable and charming young man. However, he does NOT belong on 'American Idol.'" Preach it, sister!

After Tuesday night's episode, "J" wrote, "Sanjaya did come out of his shell a bit tonight like the judges said. However, his voice was horrific. He screamed through the entire song and jumped around like a manic person. Nice kid, nice kid, but not for 'American Idol.'"

"J" says she is definitely hungry now, but is drinking a lot of fluids. She also says she is "having slight hallucinations." It's almost like watching him without fasting.

Haley Scarnato Is Covered in Kat Hair!

Published | Updated

It looks like "American Idol" wannabe Haley Scarnato is sporting the same hair extensions previously worn by last season's runner-up, Katharine McPhee. Unbeweavable!

On-set sources tell TMZ that it's not uncommon for the show to recycle things like hair extensions, jewelry and other pricey accessories from contestant to contestant and from season to season. Just keep the communal lady locks away from Sanjaya!

A few weeks back, Simon revealed he couldn't remember Haley's name. Perhaps the McPheever mane will help Haley leave a lasting impression. Or not.

Update:

In a conversation with Lisa Fox on Star 98.7's Morning Show, "American Idol" hair guru Dean Banowetz admitted the extensions belonged to Kat. Don't worry, Banowetz says he "washed them up" before using them on Haley.

Sanjaya: Bottoming Out?

Published | Updated

A source tells TMZ that 17-year-old "American Idol" contestant Sanjaya Malakar's cheery smile is simply a front ... and privately, the winsome teen is actually bumming.

A source close to Sanjaya's family revealed exclusively to TMZ that the darling hula-dancer has been devastated by recent bad press he's received over his not-so-precious singing. "He's so young and so sensitive, it's hard for him to go out on that stage and not have that devastation affect his performance," said the source.

Apparently, it's not just hard on Sanjy, but on his family as well; they are trying their best to just be a strong support system for the adorable teenager as he hulas his way through this sometimes surreal experience as one of the remaining 11 American Idols. It's unlikely that Sanjaya will have to endure it much longer. He was in the bottom two last week.

Antonella's MySpace Makeover

Published | Updated

Antonella Barba has reinvented her image -- on MySpace. The recent "Idol" castaway has moved her page into the MySpace "Music" category, removed a picture of herself flipping the bird, and has changed her MySpace quote/display name.

"I Just Look Like Her" used to be her display name (still trying to convince the world that she only looked like the girl in the racy net pics), and the accompanying quote used to read, "keep talking, you're making me famous." Now her name is just plain ol' Antonella Barba, and the quote is, "I'll have the last laugh." Well, the attitude is still there.

So what can you find on her music page? A downloadable version of her a capella audition song, "Free." Perhaps the one and only time she sounded halfway listenable. Her horrendous rendition of Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" is also featured for the brave of ear, but you may want to miss it. Like Paula, TMZ will try to focus on her strong points. Um, well, well ... she really is a beautiful girl.

The "American Idol" Odd Couple

Published | Updated

TMZ has learned that "American Idol" contestants Sanjaya Malakar and Lakisha Jones have developed a very special, and somewhat unlikely bond.

The two have become fast friends, with the older, and let's face it, more talented Lakisha often heard giving pep talks to the struggling 17-year-old, along with performance advice like, "Do your thing and just be yourself out there" and "Don't listen to what people have to say." But love the hair, dawg!

While Timberlake wannabes Blake and Chris R. have also become BFFs, it's Lakisha and Sanjaya's friendship that has most surprised the on-set staff. Sources tell TMZ that Lakisha is genuinely lookin' out for Sanjaya, and has become somewhat of a role model for him.

And from the looks of it, Sanjaya is also taking Lakisha's hairstyling advice, as clearly evidenced by last week's flatiron blowout weave!
