Savannah Guthrie is officially heading back to the “Today” show ... after stepping away for nearly two months amid her mother’s disappearance.
Guthrie will return to the anchor desk April 6 … with Hoda Kotb making the announcement Friday morning, revealing Savannah will be back alongside Craig Melvin.
Craig added the show can’t wait to welcome her back with open arms ... and in the latest installment of her interview with Hoda -- released Friday -- Savannah admitted it's been hard to imagine returning to that space, but agrees the show is part of her "purpose."

We spoke with the Disney alum following the premiere of Disney+’s "Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special" and he thinks his character of Jake -- Miley Stewart's on-again, off-again love interest -- would be excited about the project. He says you can never say never ... and that Jake will always hold a special place in his heart.

He tells TMZ he's not too sure if they'd be together in real life, but he's certain they will always have love for one another because they're each other's first loves. "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" star Jessi Draper sent her co-star Miranda Hopesome flowers ... after it came out that she was all smoochy with Miranda's ex-husband.
Miranda posted the bouquet on social media Thursday, and the accompanying note from Jessi, who said she understands if Miranda is upset with her -- and is sorry.

Sources close to production tell TMZ that Mary started filming for the show recently. As TMZ first reported, the show was briefly paused following Robert's death.

Nicholas Brendon's friend found him dead ... and authorities' initial assessment is that his death appears to be from natural causes.
According to Putnam County Coroner Todd Zeiner in Indiana ... he was notified of the deceased individual on Friday March 20 -- and, when he arrived, he found "an adult male positioned as if asleep" who had already been pronounced dead.
While Zeiner says Brendon lived alone, a longtime friend -- who had been staying at the house overnight to provide care -- found that he had died. The time of death was shortly before the body was found, the coroner says ... unclear what time of day that was.
