Bret Michaels Sues The Tonys Almost KILLED Me

Published | Updated

Bret Michaels blames the 2009 Tony Awards for causing the brain hemorrhage that nearly killed him ... after he was whacked in the head by a piece of scenery while performing on the show.

Michaels has filed a lawsuit against Tony Award Productions, CBS and others ... blaming producers for not instructing him on how to safely exit the stage after his performance was over ... because while he tried to exit, he was "smacked" in the face by a piece of the set.

In the suit, filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, Michaels claims he had to be hospitalized for a broken nose and a cut lip.

Six months after the awards, Bret nearly died from a subarachnoid brain hemorrhage -- and the rocker insists it was NO coincidence.

In his suit, Michaels claims, "One of the most common causes of this type of hemorrhage is head trauma -- exactly like the one Michaels suffered at the hands of the Tony Awards."

Michaels notes, "Through his sheer will to live, to see his children grow up, [he] was able to survive this trauma."

Bret says producers have "failed and refused" to remedy the situation ... and even blamed him for the mishap at the Tony Awards, claiming he "missed his mark."

Michaels is suing for unspecified damages. A rep for the Tonys had no comment.

Joan Collins' Oscars Emergency The Footage

Published | Updated

Soap legend Joan Collins was rushed to a hospital Sunday night ... after a medical emergency caused by a SUPER-TIGHT dress she wore to an Oscar after-party (seriously) ... and TMZ caught it all on tape.

Collins claims she had a "Victorian swoon" caused by the skin-hugging dress she wore to the Vanity Fair party at the Sunset Tower Hotel

Collins told reporters, “We went to the hospital and they did all the tests before the doctors told me I was absolutely fine and released me. The truth was, I made the wrong decision to wear a very tight dress and had something rather like a Victorian swoon."

She added, “The good news is, I am in good health and feel fine today.”

Samuel Jackson RIPS Oscars -- No Black Men!?

Published | Updated

Another HARSH criticism of the Academy Awards ... this time from Samuel L. Jackson . .. who's pretty damn upset that there weren't more black actors involved in the show.

Jackson was in L.A. yesterday, where he told a photog, "Where were the black actors?"

He continued, "I guess they didn't think we were available to read teleprompters that night ... not a big deal, hopefully it'll get better ... it wont happen again."

Jackson added, "We work in town ... they know who we are, they know we're available to be on that show to represent the people of color who are in the business in town."

For the record, there were no black male presenters during the show -- to which Jackson stated, "Hopefully they wont make that mistake again."

Dicky Eklund Christian Bale Crashed My Website!

The site is up and running again -- and Kerry tells us, Dicky's ready to kick his training schedule into high gear.

Corey Feldman Mad About Corey Haim's Oscar Snub

Published | Updated

Corey Feldman is upset that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences left his good pal Corey Haim off the Oscars "In Memoriam" segment -- saying the Academy does not "have a handle on who the public adores."

Feldman tells TMZ he's particularly upset since the same "public outcry" occured after Haim was left off the SAG memorial as well.

Feldman tells us, "Corey's films have earned the industry over a half a billion dollars and his work remains an inspiration to young artists world wide ... Corey dedicated his life to the film industry. The same industry that failed to dedicate even 30 seconds to his memory."

For their part, the Academy released a statement that reads: "Whatever the length of the sequence, there will always be fans and family members of those not included who will be disappointed by their omission. The Academy extends its understanding and its apologies to those who missed seeing a favorite face in this year’s feature."

Lindsay Lohan Stealing the Show on Oscar Night

Lindsay Lohan is only two steps removed from the Oscars -- and by "steps" we mean "time slots" -- because TMZ has learned she'll be a part of Jimmy Kimmel's big post-Oscar special.

Sources close to LiLo tell TMZ she'll play a role in Jimmy's taped sketch that will air during the special, which airs after local news, which airs after the Oscars.

You'll remember ... last year's Kimmel bit was the Handsome Men's Club, which featured Matthew McConaughey, Josh Hartnett and Rob Lowe, among others.

Pretty good company.

Lady Gaga Suspected in Grammy Coffin Incident

Published | Updated

Just hours before the Grammys last week -- a mysterious blonde woman was being wheeled around in a clear coffin-ish box backstage ... and all signs point to Lady Gaga.

Sources behind the scenes at the Grammys tell TMZ ... the woman in the box was spotted backstage right around the time Gaga had finished rehearsing for her performance. And the gang of staffers surrounding the coffin suggests that the person inside was kind of a big deal.

Hours after the video was shot, Gaga famously arrived to the awards inside of a crazy alien egg thing.

We called Gaga's camp for comment -- but so far, nobody's talkin'.

Lady Gaga's Egg A Hussein Original

Published | Updated

The egg Lady Gaga was encased in at the Grammys can't be bought at a local Target -- it's a one-of-a-kind original designed by British fashion designer and artist Hussein Chalayan.

According to the designer, the "plexiglass vessel" was a collaboration between Gaga and Chalayan based on a piece of work Chalayan did for a movie back in 2003.

The vessel took over a month to construct, but only about two seconds for everyone to go, "What the hell is that?!?!?"

Golden Globes Fight Back Against Payola Allegations

Published | Updated

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is firing back ... suing the PR firm that sued them last month ... claiming they broke their contract when they tried airing the HFPA's dirty laundry and accused them of accepting payola.

The PR company The Michael Russell Group sued the HFPA in January claiming they were lied to when the HFPA unceremoniously dumped them in 2009. But the biggest part of that lawsuit was that the MRG alleged the HFPA accepted money and gifts in exchange for Golden Globes.

Now the HFPA has filed a lawsuit of its own, saying the MRG committed fraud when they did several deals on behalf of the HFPA ... that also benefited themselves.

They also allege the MRG violated their contract by trying to to embarrass the HFPA when they "manufactured a fanciful tale of Hollywood intrigue ... with its colorful reference to 'payola.'"

The HFPA claims the MRG's allegations come "without a shred of evidence."

They are suing for breach of contract and fraud and are asking for unspecified damages.
