In what was arguably the most anticipated delivery in the world, Angelina Jolie gave birth to Brad Pitt's daughter Saturday in Africa, Pitt's publicist announced.

"The night of May 27, 2006 in Namibia, Africa, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. No further information is being given," publicist Cindy Guagenti said in a statement.

No photographs were being released, she added.

The baby's arrival had been the subject of intense press speculation in recent months, compelling the superstar couple to decamp to Africa for privacy.

The actors were linked romantically shortly after appearing together in the 2005 movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Jolie, 30, is a frequent visitor to Africa and serves as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Jolie has two adopted children: toddler Zahara, from Ethiopia, and 4-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia.

Both had their surnames legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intentions to co-adopt the children.

Pitt and actress Jennifer Aniston divorced last fall.

It's a boy for Gwen Stefani and her rocker husband Gavin Rossdale. Kingston James McGregor Rossdale was born by Caesarean section Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, according to Stefani spokesman Dave Tomberlin. The baby weighed 7 1/2 pounds.

Nearly two months after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt arrived at Langstrand on the West Coast of Namibia, the mood has changed from welcoming excitement to tense anticipation, writes a paparazzi in Namibia in an exclusive diary written for TMZ.

HOW IT SPREAD: Star reported that the alleged boyfriend is Larry Birkhead, a freelance entertainment reporter/photographer. Birkhead declined to comment to Star. The day after the story broke, the New York Daily News picked up the rumor with a new spin -- that Birkhead himself was "boasting of impending fatherhood."
The Daily News was even more specific, reporting that Smith was five months pregnant.

THE TMZ LOWDOWN: Birkhead changed his response from an initial no comment to a denial. So, was Birkhead asked to change his response? Birkhead would not go further with TMZ than to deny the pregnancy rumors, but here's where the plot thickens. A source connected with Anna Nicole scoffs at the notion that Birkhead impregnated her, though the source would not confirm if she is indeed pregnant.

But another source insists Smith and Birkhead were having an intimate relationship. So why the effort to distance Smith from Birkhead, even though the two have had a relationship? It makes rumors of a pregnancy more credible.
